I like Bowdoin, think I can be there?

I’m a 10th grader from India, interested in biology. I’m also female, if that helps .

Will be applying for class of 2014.

Won’t be needing financial aid

Let’s split this up into sub-fields, so that it’s easier to read.

Grades:Awesome. Top few students in the class. No problems here.

Standardized tests: Taking the ACT in October, let’s see how it goes, but I’m getting 34’s in practise tests from the Rea ACT Book. SAT 2’s should be pretty good as well.

EC’s (where I think I need to focus):

National level athlete
Zillions of sports at the school level
Heavy involvement in MUN.
School magazine stuff.
Over the next 2 years, I’ll probably be highly involved with in-school and some state-level cultural activities.
Gonna start biological research in a few months.
Plan to do quite a bit of volunteer work from next summer on (I’ll have a 2 or 3-month break in May)

These EC’s are the ones I’ll be continuing till I’m done with school

Recs: Should be pretty good. I’m on amazing terms with all my teachers

Essays: Expect them to be good, I feel I’m quite a good writer

Bowdoin’s picture-perfect location and strength in biology, coupled with its size and intimacy are making it sound pretty awesome to me. Think I can be there in fall 2010?

Come on guys, I really do wanna know!

Don't know quite yet. You certainly have a shot. Do something interesting or different or get in touch with something about yourself that you've always wanted to do but haven't. Being compelling is perhaps a better guarantee than always doing well in school, although the later is necessary.

1.) Bowdoin's application process is need-blind. It won't matter that you don't need financial aid, and I would strongly suggest against using that as a reason for your admittance.

2.) SAT and testing scores aren't all that important. They might bolster an otherwise weak application, but as a 1600 SAT, straight 800 SAT IIs, and 5 AP student, I can tell you that kids here are way smarter than me who scored under 1100 SAT. So don't let those worry you.

It's hard to tell if you are going to get in or not - just apply, and you'll get a decision. You're not a shoe-in (no one is now), but nor is there anything on your app that would DQ you.

Please come back in a year. Without SAT scores and with little to go on in terms of academics and ECs, no one on CC can possibly advise you.

As a foreign student from India, the competition at the top schools will be extreme.

Go get a life.

Bowdoin is NOT need-blind to international students, only in the U.S.. The fact that you don't need financial aid will probably help you, especially if there are other people applying who also has good grades and such.

Middlebury and Williams are the only liberal arts schools that are need-blind for international students.

Frankly, there are hardly any Indian's at Bowdoin. I think you have a very good chance.
