I’m an NYU student – ask away! Part III

i'm a high school sophomore looking for a creative writing program to attend this summer, and it's been a dream of mine for YEARS to attend NYU, either for undergrad or law school. anyway, i was just wondering if anyone knew about any creative writing programs that the school offers to high schoolers during the summer .. any info would be GREATLY appreciated!

Current Stern students-do you really like everything in Stern?

I'm seriously consider about Stern, and some friends told me pros, while some cons...

so would the current Stern students give me advices if it is worthwhile to pay almost $50,000 for Stern study and why?

have u ever heard of the Preston Robert Tisch center for Tourism, Hospitality and Sports Management?

do u know any people from this program, how are they doing ?

thx

im trying to decide wthehr to try to get into traditional style or apartment style... in general which contains more students who party in teh dorms and more partying in general?

bergdizzle27: I'm sorry, I have no idea, and a search of NYU's website turned up nothing. Consider calling the CWP directly and asking.

recycle98: Let me get back to you about that.

jostak: I've heard of it and I've met people who were in the school, but I know nothing about it. Sorry.

college4040: Partying is not at all dorm or dorm-style specific. It's the people you hang out with or live with. If you love partying, find others who love partying. If you can't stand it, live with people who can't stand it. That's the best advice I can give you.

I heard that NYU is composed of many buildings in the busy streets and really it does have a clearcut campus. One can only notice if it is the NYU by its flag. The buildings are small each and whenever one step in, facing you are two elevators leading to the upper floors for lectures. It seems weired and really like a school. Is that true...if it is, does it really the campus life and affinity of the students to NYU...etc?

just wondering, are early decision kids eligible for the scholars program? because i havent seen any as of yet

also...if you dont mind asking your sternie roomates.. is it hard to keep up with stern workload while working a job?

ditto on superman, job and studying? hard?.....and 4 classes/semester...right? well, i know each session is 75 mins, but how many times a week is each class...75 mins for how many times a week?

crazy4ivy, I'm not sure what your question is. Can you clarify for me?

superman: I imagine they would be, since the CAS Scholars takes the top 5%. It just might be that since there are fewer EDs, you may encounter fewer CAS Scholars in that group.

eji2006:

My roommate, who works 8 hours a week, has no problem keeping up with the work. The only problem is that since everyone else has a part-time job, too, it can be hard to coordinate group meetings for projects and such. However, if you're taking several challenging courses or are working 15-20 hours a week, then you might run into some bumps.

My roommate honestly doesn't find Stern to be that challenging. Work is generally project-based, so it's not like you have 3 hours of homework every night. Things just tend to get stressful around the time that the projects are due.

As for classes, my roommate says they meet twice a week, and one generally takes four or five classes a semester, depending on the amount of credits each class is worth. Max credits is 18 per semester.

This is something I thought others might find useful:

What do you know about internal transfer at NYU?

This is for a friend, he read that transferring to Stern once in CAS is nearly impossible.

Is this true and do you have any advice if one wanted to transfer into Stern.

[/quote]

I asked my roommate who transfered from CAS Econ to Stern. My roommate didn't give much in the way of detail but said that transfers are quite competitive. According to my roommate, each year Stern only takes 50 new sophomores and 50 new juniors - this includes outside transfers and GSP transfers, so as you can imagine, internal transfer students have a lot of competition. As for the paperwork, it's pretty simple but it's getting accepted that's hard. My roommate even said that initially, they were told they wouldn't get in.

thanks buddy, so 75 min classes 2 times a week, even 3 times....i could definitely handle that...thanks....cant wait until 8/27

heyy. ive been hearing so many random stats bout NYU. Some people say the average GPA is around a 3.6/4.0 and others say that its a 3.9/4.0 ... what would you say was the average GPA/SAT scores of the people that were accepted?

azndee26:

If you're looking for the stats of admitted students, you can find them on NYU's Admissions page (<a href="http://admissions.nyu.edu/fast_facts/%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.nyu.edu/fast_facts/</a>) but I'll reproduce them here.

Academic Statistics (Four-year Programs)
Average High School GPA: 3.63
SAT Score Range (middle 50%): 1310 – 1440
Ranked in Top 10% of High School Class: 71.9%

sorry this is kind of late but to

bergdizzle27--

if you are really interested in immersing yourself in creative writing for a month, i strongly recommend that you consider Columbia's Summer Program (although the application period for that is over). Its one of the most popular summer program for Creative Writing and for me, it was such a great experience. It's not tooo far from NYU, so you can always make visits because the program allows a TON of free time.

How well did your roomate do at CAS before he internally transferred to STern?

Do you know if high school stats matter in internal transfer? If so do you know his SAT or GPA. Thanks.

Hello, I was wondering if you could tell me about the communications program and how its precieved on campus? They hyped it up a lot at diffrent events but i want to know some opinions on it from unbiased students. I was also looking at the dramatic lit, theatre, cineima major in CAS...do you know anything about it...hard courseload/happy students etc. Thank You!

Is they any way to ensure that one has housing after freshman year? Any special programs or living/learning communities that effectively ensure that one has a place to stay? Today I received a pamphlet from NYU about their special freshman housing options--I'm particularly interested in the French and "XXVI" politics options. Do opportunities like these exist for upperclassmen as well or are they only for freshmen?

i've decided....nyu here i come! now for dorm decisions. my question is...how come nobody seems to want to dorm a weinstein?....is there anything in particular that turns people away? and how come everyone seems to want to dorm at hayden?

Hey Shades_Children...

First, I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking your time to answer our questions. I have several questions about the chemistry major. I'm thinking of going to pharmacy school after NYU so I have to take certain pre-pharm courses. What would you suggest to be the most suitable major if I want to pursue a career in pharmacy? How are your courses for your chemistry major? Are they hard/competitive or are they manageable? And, how are you doing GPA-wise in CAS taking your chem major because I'm thinking of taking chemistry as a major to prepare me for pharmacy school. Is this advisable or should I major in something like biochemistry? Currently, I'm still thinking of going to either NYU or UC Davis for pre-pharmacy. If you know anything about UC Davis, do you think NYU is a better choice or should I do pre-pharmacy in UC Davis? I know these are a lot of questions at once...but I would REALLY appreciate it if you gave me some insight. I FINALLY found somebody who's pursuing my major in the school I want to go to :) haha...Thanks in advance!!!
