I’m an NYU student – ask away! Part III

do they have desk chairs (or office chairs..) in dorm rooms???

or do we have to provide our own?

They provide them. I read it on the housing site.

how bout toliet paper- i dont know if this was asked before in this post but do we buy our own toilet paper in apt style?

ascremer/// yes.. it says on the "what to bring" list

hi im an nyu student, im going to be a sophomore and im going to major in chemistry and im pre med too, i posted something about this last night and since youre a fellow premed student i was wondering if you could help me out. So heres my post from last night:
Hi I'm taking physics I and II this year, and ive found it motivating to work ahead with a tutor in subjects that are harder for me, like physics, so i was wondering if anyone knew of great tutors that youve used during your years at nyu, even students who do really well would be fine. I want to work maybe every other week in the beginning of the school year to get ahead in the concepts, and then every week as we get closer to the exams if possible.

So please let me know if u know any good physics tutors, students or professors, it doesnt matter as long as they are good and u can highly recommend them!

Thanks
and if someone does reply i can give u my email but id rather not put it up here publically

merumerume: ascremer is right. There is absolutely no need for you to bring any large pieces of furniture. It's all provided for you.

ascremer: Some halls give residents free toilet paper and trash bags. I don't know which ones are those, so consider calling your residence hall's front desk and asking if they provide those.

sp325: I'll respond in the other thread.

shades_children, you are god

Shades.....if you change meal plans (and NYU home says the change will be effective Sept 3rd) Does that mean we have the 14 meal plan until then???

or no plan till then?
why is it so hard to choose my meal plan-ill be living in an apt style dorm i cant decide between 19 and 175flex
cause between 14 and 19 are like 25 dollars difference:) i would take 19...but with 175 flex u an swipe for friends and dont have to wait for meal time;) but then if im hungry there will be always something in the fridge and you can always grab a pizza for 2 dollars in NYC
am I the only one who cannot decide for his/her meal plan????

if i were apartment, i wouldn't do a 19 or 175 flex, i would do 175flex or nothing higher than 10/wk.

175 flex is like 10-12 meals per week and costs: 1.625
instead of that i can have more like 14 per week to make sure for only $100 more
but then if 19 per week is only 25 dollars more expensive why not have 5 meals per week more for that amount even though i know i will not eat 19 meals per week especially when my home is 28 blocks north and i have a tiny kitchen in my room:)
it sounds like i know what i want- but thats not the case:)

i meant 113 flex*

what i mean, is since apartments don't have dining halls, but they do have their own kitchens, you're probably going to be eating in more rather than walking all that way to find a dining hall at another dorm. thus, you probably won't need a big meal plan.

Apartments do have dining halls. Third North has one, and U-Hall has Palladium, which is a half-block away, practically next to U-Hall. (And I hear Palladium is one of the better dining halls.)

I'm going with 19 for the first couple weeks to guage how often I actually eat at the dining halls. If I actually use the kitchen and eat less than 10 meals per week, I'll either switch to the 10 or the 175 flex.

I did not know that. :)

175flex + $ 125 = 19 meals/week???

ugh...
I am so tempted to change it into 19 meals per week....

Question: When is the last day that you can change the meal plan??
can you do that after the semester starts?

You can do it at any point and time I believe. I know some people have said that they stuck to a certain meal plan for a few weeks to decide if it would work out, and if they didn't like it they just changed it.

To everyone with meal plan questions:

I can't answer any of them. I never switched meal plans or anything - I got 19 meals a week and stuck with that for freshman year. I've never had a meal plan since. If you have questions about switching, you really should ask the office that's in charge of that (Housing, maybe?) instead of asking around on this message board.

If you're in apartment-style housing, consider how often you'll be cooking. I've pretty much been cooking every single night, and it works out a-okay for me. I'll order takeout if I'm tired or super-busy.

Please help, what are my chances?!

You really should post this in a new thread so other people will respond and you can get some additional feedback.

All in all, though, I'd say you have a pretty good shot at getting in. Your stats are quite reasonable. Write an excellent essay, and I think your chances are very good!
