I made a Hooooooorrrible MISTAKE on my essay!

I just sent my University of washington in seattle app.
and in the app, I wrote "this is why I want to university of california"
at the end!!!!!! because they had the same essay topic...
I copied and pasted but I forgot to change that little thing

should I e-mail them that I had a confusion?
or should I just shoot myself? omg......
will I be rejected because of that? please... I am about to faint right now

Yeah nothing turns an admissions offier off faster than seeing a student do something like that Ive heard. Just foregt about it and hope they dont notice. If your over qualified you'll still probobly get in.

cheers,
Mike

lol... worst mistake you can make.

Don't email them and exacerbate it, though.

no.. dont email them.
pray that they don't notice it.

This has happened before. It's embarrassing, but admissions officers are aware that people apply to more than one school. Imo, ask your GC how to handle it.

thanks people... it is even embarrassing to tell my counselor though... i feel so silly

An important lesson for the rest of your life: when there is a problem, ask for help!

seen various admission personal say different things about what you did. Fordham official said he would immediately discard application, Suffolk U. official said it would have no bearing, and one of the liberal arts schools in Maine never said what he would do but mixing up Bates, Colby, and Bowdoin is frowned upon. I suspect they will notice.

okay so i should email them that I had a confusion in names, right?

Did you ask your GC?

no I emailed to my counselor yesterday, but she hasn't replied me back
I hope she checks her email, despite of the thnks gvg break.......

Well, my friend got into Georgetown with an essay about why she wanted to go to GW, so you should be fine.

Most admissions officers I have heard say they are not bothered by this. There may be "hot button" issues - such as mixing up Bowdoin/Bates/Colby (Maine "rivals"), or Johns Hopkins admission officer said they don't care if you leave in Yale/Harvard/whatever but hate-hate-hate it if you call them John Hopkins (missing the key "s").

I doubt this is a fatal error but agree to see what your GC says. If you do decide to submit a corrected essay, I would not draw attention to the mistake... just send a new essay with a cover note that there were some errors in your first submission and you would like them to substitute this one.

My D did the same thing, applied to one school, using the common app. said she wanted to go to that city and that school, first choice. Sent same essay to another school, forgetting to change that part. We went to open house at the other school, and she asked the admissions guy what she should do about it. he told her to send in a supplement (she had not done the supplement part for that school yet) so she was able to send in a cover letter explaining that when she wrote it, that first school was her first choice, but since she went to open house at second school, this was her first choice now, and explained why. We'll hear from them in two weeks to see if they forgave her!
