I am about to enter college in the Fall, and I want a job!!

too late. buy books and read ahead for classes so you can get involved and enjoy yourself during school

Well look in your local area, if you have a car look in suburbs also.

Look for online jobs (ones that arent scams) or post flyers offering to babysit and stuff.

Look around for fast food places that are hiring?

Uhh okay? Start looking for places that are hiring and putting in applications…

A+ contribution!

Seriously, fast food is the way to go. It’s a little embarrassing, yes, but you can usually get 40 plus hours a week at minimum wage. Plus, they probably have more flexible schedules than most jobs. If you want to be done with work by noon, you can start at four or five in the morning.

So apply to places…you won’t get a job if you don’t!

You should be looking for an internship rather than a minimum wage job

Yeah… no. You’re very probably not going to find an internship right now as a student who just graduated highschool. You’re probably not going to find an internship right now anyway, but ESPECIALLY as someone who just graduated highschool. Go do some crappy job, you’ll meet some interesting people and make a little money, and probably wind up with some halfway decent stories (at least better than telling people about the summer where you sat around all day.)

where do i look

just go to you local mall and get a job a retailer or a cafe so sumtin.

Have fun with that. The economy sucks and few employers want to hire people who can only work for 2 or 3 months.

Try craigslist. The last 3 jobs I’ve had I’ve found through postings on craigslist (they’ve included 2 stores at the mall and one as a camp counselor). Just be smart and don’t reply to anything shady. Many times retail stores or other places will post that they’re hiring and let you know when to come by their store to pick up and application etc.

Where to look:

Retail: The mall is your friend. Most retail stores WANT seasonal employees. Summer/back to school and holidays (November through January), retail stores are always hiring.

Grocery stores.

Restaurants (although it’s unlikely that very many are hiring, and if they are, they probably only want people with experience).

If possible, try ice cream shops. These places might actually legitimately need someone JUST for the summer. Also, if you have local parks that have staff, you can generally get a specifically summer job doing that, because that’s when lifeguards/park attendants are actually needed. These obviously are not applicable to all places though.

If all else fails, fast food and restaurant dishrooms are typically hiring. These jobs have such high turnover rates that they tend to need to replace employees a lot, even when the economy sucks, because they’re pretty demanding, low paying, and not glamorous.

I love how the Obama stimulus money went out. Created plenty of green jobs…student opportunities. How to apply for these green jobs gets released in the newspaper yesterday. Reading the newspaper at night yesterday about it, check out the website…applications were do that day, and the office where you had to turn them in was already closed. What a great way to stimulate the economy, by putting the family of government officials in the green jobs! Information about the plan was obviously released day of applications due to allow those in the know to snatch up those jobs.
