Hey, everyone.
I don’t need the lecture on “you do not need an ED school,” so I ask that you please help give me some ideas. Here’s what I want:
Great economics program
Great social scene
Preferably East coast - anywhere from Maine to Florida is fine by me haha
Preferably medium sized, like 5000-10000, but I can do a bigger school too
Great job/internship opportunities
Good chance for someone with a 31 ACT and 4.15W, 3.83UW GPA to get in ED (scored 32 in reading, 35 in English - stronger in social sciences). I have taken 6 AP classes as of now (cannot take any freshman year, two sophomore year, four junior year)
Near or in a city
I know College Confidential is great at giving ideas, so I would be very thankful if you could help me out, because I have not found any schools as of right now that I am just absolutely 100% set on. Thanks, again!
Any private school should be fine. I calculated my aid for all my schools that meet 100% need and all came out similar. I do not want to go to like UCLA, though (70k a year with no chance of anything) @Gumbymom
My mom said as long as the school is like 35k or under with aid I should be fine. I did calculations for schools like Amherst, and it came out to be like 25k a year with aid, just for reference (used actual data from legal documents) @jym626
You need to run NPC’s for schools that DON’T meet 100% of their definition of need. ED is binding (if the FA package is manageable), so throwing out schools here without knowing what you can truly afford, especially or any ED schools that do not promise to meet need (and there is a range of what schools’ need met policies are) may be unhelpful.
Your need for a city and the size will limit your choice, and your ACT score will knock out the uber selective ones, so you are working with a reasonable number of schools. Boston College? Villanova? What is your feeling about those two?
Okay, so BC and Villanova aren’t your cup of tea (because you wouldn’t ED somewhere else if you loved BC.) I didn’t think American would be social enough, but maybe that’s not the case. Do you like Tulane?
BC would be a good choice. How about George Washington? It’s a little bigger but you could live on their smaller satellite campus in Mount Vernon, or not. We visited American and GWU seemed way more social. Bigger still is Boston Univ. Could be a reach for your ACT score, but meets your criteria. Have you considered Fordham? The Rose Hill campus sounds pretty social (I have not visited it yet but their Lincoln Center campus did not appeal to me.) Fordham offers ED I think but they also offer EA.
@gardenstategal No, I loved BC!!! I just wanted to make sure the school had early decision. That’s so exciting to hear. Is that realistic given my ACT score? @Techno13
^^Based on the CDS, it looks like it is in, but at the bottom of, the middle 50%, so doable but far from a sure thing. The average ACT is 32, so you aren’t out of the ballpark. If you had 4 and 5 on your AP to self-report, it could help.
