SO I HAVE JAPANESE LETTERS IN MY PERSONAL ESSAY but the Common App preview shows those letters in question marks. What should I DO?? I really want to keep these letters. WHAT SHOULD I DOOO I WANT TO SUBMIT RIGHT NOWOWO
Unfortunately, the Common App entry boxes do not appear to accept any unusual characters, even when you insert them using unicode codes. They all get converted to question marks, just as you observed. You will unfortunately need to transliterate if you want to use Japanese words. Sorry, that’s a huge bummer to deal with at the last minute.
Common app does not support special characters, like Japanese letters.
You will have to rework that part of the essay. It’s not due tonite, 10/31, is it?
Is transliterating like just writing it out the pronounciation into english letters?
Yes. Like writing Konnichiwa instead of こんにちは

Use Romanji.
