hi guys, i came to this website a couple years back was very active and got into my favorite school being syracuse. I need some help if you guys can. I really messed up my freshman year and am sitting with a poor 2.4 gpa in college as a junior. I am currently an economics major with a minor in finance and entrepreneurship. Im trying very hard to get my grades up even retaking classes and such and hopefully can end school close to a 3.0 i am very interested in going in to law school or business school for mba maybe jd. How can you in interviews and such make up for such a poor performance. I can get a pretty good internships through connections. But man i am very involved with extracurriculars and clubs and have had to work. I really want to stright things out and need any help i can receive. also what jobs can you receive as an econ major straight out of college. please help me out guys appreciate it a lot.

The idea now would be to build credibility through those internships you can get. You're very lucky to have that option as where I work, even a good friend would have a hard time getting you in. Maybe even take a year off if you can work a good full time internship. Work hard and get strong recs. That's your best hope for landing a decent job.

Go talk to a counciler. There may be other ways to raise your gpa. In some schools retaking only averages the two grades, but I've known people who have petitioned to allow only the retake grade to count. Also, if you had some undue hardship they may be more leaniant. It never hurts to ask. I have friend who dropped out of the University, but never withdrew from his courses. 3 years later when he went to a state college his 4.0 gpa was tarnished by 5 Fs for a quarter he never attended. He was irate, I told them to ask them to fix that, and they did.
