I have gotten rec letters from my engineering and computer science teachers. Their letters helped me get a computer repair job.
NOTE: I read the rec letters, and they seemed pretty good to my parents and I.

UCs dont take rec letters right?
UC Berkeley invites some applicants to submit LOR’s but the rest do not as of now.
I think you have a good chance of getting into those schools. However, I really like at least one good sure thing that you can get early action or rolling admissions acceptance before year end and then go for broke RD. You can apply wherever because you already have a school acceptance.
What does broke RD mean, and by those schools did you mean RIT, etc? Thanks for your help btw.
“Go for broke” is an expression. You should do a Go for Broke” RD. In other words, apply to the absolute favorite schools, do whatever you want , reach for the stars, because you have a sure thing acceptance already. Only apply to schools you prefer over that safety.
If you want to make it a bit more complicated, look for 3 early or rolling schools that you can apply to, and see how you do with them. Only apply to those schools you like better than them. My son applied to St Bonaventure, Binghamton, Boston College, Georgetown early. Got into St B , full ride. Bing, accepted , no money but inexpensive state school price, BC accepted but not a dime. Georgetown was a deferral.
That gave him a good idea where he stood in terms of admissions to colleges. He only applied to schools he preferred over BC which was his favorite among his choices. But with BC a sure thing, he could “go for broke” and apply to ivies and other top schools, and see how things would go.
Would it help for me to start an Udemy course and teach how to code?
Assuming you get all As in 11th grade your UC capped weighted GPA would be an estimated 4.11. That’s about the average for UCI, UCSB and UCD students who get accepted.
I have one more question. Do you know if it will be possible for me to get into University of Arizona, Arizona State, UIC, Oregon State, Emory, or U Colorado Boulder for ED? I also forgot to mention that my engineering/comp sci courses are PLTW, and I will have completed all engineering/cs PLTW courses available at my school before I graduate.
Arizona State lists its admission standards on its web site:
https://admission.asu.edu/freshman/apply (campus)
https://webapp4.asu.edu/programs/t5/majorinfo/ASU00/ESCSEBS/undergrad/false (CS major)
University of Arizona also; CS does not admit directly to major, but requires high enough grades in college:
https://admissions.arizona.edu/how-to-apply/freshman (campus)
https://www.cs.arizona.edu/undergraduate/pre-major (CS pre-major)
@Pokemanexpert , have you talked with your family about college costs? How much are they able to pay?
we’re relatively decent when it comes to college costs, but we won’t be able to pay for anything over 35-40K. It’s negotiable depending on what college I get into. Both of my parents work, and we live in the Bay Area
Also should I take the SAT? I don’t really feel comfortable with the SAT format.
There’s no reason to take the SAT if you feel sure you’ll do better on the ACT, and your 32 is a really solid score. If you want to test again, maybe stick with the ACT since you’re also more used to it. A 34 would be impressive for a lot of schools (if you can figure out what your weaknesses on the test are and correct those) and may put you into scholarship territory for some. Your 32 is solid for admittance to a lot of good schools though! You’re an ORM, so anything that can push you application up is a good thing. (But don’t drive yourself crazy…it’s not worth becoming anxious… and you want to leave time for living your life.)
So I visited RIT, and talked to an admissions counselor. The admissions counselor said that I would have a pretty good chance at being accepted into RIT. Do you have any recommendations for other colleges that I should visit/that I have a good chance at making? I would prefer the colleges to be on the West Coast, as it is close to home.
If you can commute to Santa Clara, that would be a solid choice for you. Same with SJSU. UCSC is probably a match.
The list of East Coast schools earlier in this thread is waaayyyy off. You can do a lot better than most of those schools. Stony Brook is solid, but the others would be beneath safety with your stats. I’d look at Worcester Polytech Inst. and The College of NJ as matches. TCNJ would be especially perfect for you. Very strong academics, including STEM, classically beautiful campus (brand new STEM building) and only 6,000 students. It was rated by US News as the top public school under 10k students in the US. It’s become more popular than Rutgers among strong NJ students who want to stay in state. NYC employers flock to campus for recruitment. They are making a concerted effort to attract OOS students, so merit could be on the table with your ACT. It’s probably #1 on our list right now for my son, who’s a rising junior.
Do you think that I have a chance at an UC?
Yes, if you can get your Capped weighted UC GPA into the 4.1+ range, you would have a chance at several of the UC’s. Although UC’s tend to be very GPA focused, test scores, personal insight essays and EC’s will all contribute to your chances. Come back end of Junior year and see where you stand.
I would give very serious consideration to TCNJ. It a highly competitive school and is heavily recruited . Looks more like a NESCAC campus than a state university. S graduated (afterattending one of the most prestigious prep schools with similar grades), he had great nyc internships, and had a great job offers by end of junior year with top 4 consulting firms.
