Hey guys, this is my first post on CC. Anyways, I am a freshman in AP Chemistry and AP CSP. I have course selection in about a week. My schedule for sophomore year looks like: English 10, PE Tennis, AP Bio, AP World, AP Comp Sci A, and Accelerated Pre-Calculus/AP Calculus AB. I am also taking French 2 online next year. My question is: should I add on AP Lang instead of English 10? I went to a presentation about it earlier today and it sounds like it will be an interesting class. However, the workload will be really intense. Will 5 AP classes sophomore year hurt my GPA, or be worth it? I maintained all A’s this semester so far and my class rank is number 1. I don’t want to get B’s or lower in my classes next year and have it hurt my GPA. What should I do?
As a current sophomore, 5 APs sounds like a lot, but if you are able to have B’s and above on all your classes, it will be very beneficial to colleges.
For both classes (AP Lang and ELA 10), it kind of depends on the teacher. You sound like a pretty smart person, with all A’s for first semester. If you really want to pack on a little more homework each night, I say go right ahead. Overall, it depends on YOU and the TEACHER. Here are some questions for you: Do you play sports? Are you in any clubs? Do you have the TIME to take all those AP classes? Many of those factors (sports, clubs, etc.) will have an impact on your schedule.
Good Luck on whatever path you choose to take. :)>-
Thanks for the reply. I’m in tennis and am in the science Olympiad club. I’m okay with a bit of extra work each night, so I think I’ll be going with AP Lang as well as the others for sophomore year.
I’d recommend you take AP English Language junior year (this is a Jr/sr class anyway).
Your schedule is good.
