I've just started my college searching. I loved bucknell lafayette elon and wake forest. What are some other schools that are small like these but provides a good education?

Small Schools with various admission rates:

Hobart & William Smith (NY)
Skidmore College (NY)
St. Lawrence University (NY)
Connecticut College (CT)
Wheaton College (MA)
Hampshire College (MA)
Holy Cross (MA)
Colgate University (NY)
Alfred University (NY)
Hamilton College (NY)
Middlebury College (VT)
Mt. Holyoke (MA) if female
Smith College (MA) if female
Wellesley College (MA) if female

In addition to RiversChoice’s suggestions, consider:

Brandeis University (MA)
College of William & Mary (VA)
St. Mary’s College of Maryland (which is smaller than some of these others)
Oberlin College (OH)

If you look at the colleges you’ve liked on the College Board web site or in the Fiske guide, you’ll see a list of colleges that your favorites overlap with–that is, other colleges that applicants to your target schools also apply to in significant numbers. That may be a good way to guide your college search.

U. Richmond

Gettysburg, Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall all in PA.

If you liked Bucknell, Elon and Wake Forest than you might want to also consider Furman. They all have beautiful campuses with strong academics.

your suggestions are helping so much. it’s so funny that you suggested furman and dickinson and some of the other ones because those were some i was also considering

College Board has a great school finder where you can say the size you like, majors, your stats, etc. Princeton Review does also (called Counselor-O-Matic). So does this site.

Good luck!

Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Furman and Elon (in that order of selectivity) are like four siblings in the same family. Bucknell would be their Northern cousin (and maybe Colgate, as well).

gadad: are there any schools you know of like that that do are sat act optional?

jpaley: Wake is SAT/ACT optional but you had better have a very high GPA to compensate…

Muhlenberg, F&M, Union College are all SAT optional and would fall into these categories although do not have the feel of the four mentioned in gadad’s post…
