My goal is 2250+ on the October SAT, on the May SAT I got 1990 (610M, 690CR, 690W). I have 3 BB tests left, so I don't want to go through those really, except to evaluate how I am coming along in improving my scores. Math is no problem (I've got Dr. Chung's so I'm looking at 750+ in math hopefully).

Critical Reading is a problem, on the May SAT I missed 4 SCs and 5 RCs. I have Direct Hits, but I think I need to study and actually know every word in those books. But even missing only 1 or 2 SCs, my score will still be lower than I would like. I know I need to read more, but how important is that to improving your score short-term? To be confident I really feel like I need some good critical reading practice because I am always low on time in every section.

My 9 essay has gotten better since May, so hopefully now I'd get an 11 or 12. But my multiple choice has not gotten better. If anything, it's gotten worse. CR takes priority over Writing naturally but I need something to help me with this as well. Maybe just reading some grammar rules will improve my score.

Good work so far! I think you can get those scores up, but you’re going to have to put in a good deal of effort.

For sentence completions, look at the ones you got wrong. Are you missing them just because of vocabulary or are certain sentence structures confusing you? If it’s the former, study a lot of vocabulary, and make sure you have a working knowledge of the words.

For reading comp, also see which questions you’re missing. Is there a pattern? On difficult reading comp, first get all the obviously wrong answers out of the way. You should only have two or three answers remaining. Now, stop trying to prove an answer right and start trying to prove answers wrong. Sometimes it’s easier to see an error when you’re looking for errors than when you’re looking for something correct.

As for grammar, I know I sound like a broken record, but study the questions you get wrong. What types of questions are you missing and why? Is it error identification or improving sentence questions? Are you missing subject/verb disagreement or are you missing pronoun errors? Learn where you’re weak and strengthen those areas.

I can’t help you with the Critical Reading other than telling you to practice the Passage-Based reading questions and intensively reviewing the answers explanation.

However, on writing what’s the problem? MC or Essay? Essay you can work for the perfect score and really get it; it isn’t tough. Start by brainstorming a list of all possible examples for all types of prompts (creativity, technology, justice, ambition, etc.) I made a list like this and I’ve been scoring 12s nonstop over multiple essays. As far as MC goes, which portion? Find the portion, and start doing those types nonstop in a non-official practice book (Kaplan for example). Lastly, if its rules and subtle things that are tripping you up the Sparknotes writing guide is awesome. It really helped me boost my 650s into the 750 zone. Give Sparknotes a shot. Good luck!
