<p>A mistake I made last year was in how I looked at the 50% SAT ranges. I think it's easy to look at a 50% range and think that the school is a match if you are just in the range. However, the range is using the people accepted and not the people applying, and the statistically lower URM's, legacies, athletes, development cases, and ED applicants pull the average down. As a rule of thumb, a non-URM/legacy/athlete/ED applicant needs to be at the halfway mark for the school to be reach, and at the 75% mark for the school to be a reasonable match.</p>
