I noticed that some schools do not offer Computer Engineering.

I assume double majoring in CS and EE will cover more ground as opposed to just taking CompE? What I want to do with my life is get a doctorate and do research my whole life. Either I do it through academia or do it in a R&D department of some big company or government agency.

Double majoring in both I’d say is pretty darn near impossible. At my school (UCSB), it’s flat out not allowed. The upper division requirements for an engineering major are usually almost double than most other major’s requirements (64 quarter units for CS vs. 38 for Philosophy), and that’s not including the lower division requirements (62 units).

UC Berkeley offers an EECS major, but most of my friends in that major are focusing on either EE or CS, so I’m not really sure you need to double major.

If your school doesn’t offer CE major, just do EE and complete the digital option.
Computer Engineering is NOT just a mix of EE/CS classes.
