I really need some advice.

I am not a typical undergraduate student and this is my first time on this website so I am not sure exactly how this works. I am an undergrad student in a top 50 university and I have not done well in the sciences and math due to having a disadvantageous academic and socioeconomic background. My third year now, my skills have improved academically but I am not allowed to take the sciences because my financial program will not allow it. I am still set on medical school because I know I can do it. It has taken me some time to adjust and increase my intellectual level and I have.
So what I am hoping for is some advice. I will be leaving here with a bachelors in sociology but I will not be ready to apply for medical school. I will hopefully be living in DC after graduation and I want to attend a community college to makeup the sciences. I have a good story to explain the difficulties in undergrad but I do not know that if I work hard in CC will I ever be eligible for top schools like America or John Hopkins medical school or maybe even a post bac. Any advice.

In short if i finish my undergrad and then attend a CC for sciences classes is there any hope of getting into those really good medical schools? with community service and hospital volunteer work? as well as an interesting life story

You’re going to face a hard road. Namely, there are a lot of successful medical school applicants with absolute horror stories as backgrounds. So, realize that your circumstances may not be as helpful as you first considered.

If you graduate, you’ll need to enter a Post-Bacc program. There are dozens of those around the country - and certainly one in DC. But, those are tough to get into, as well. Ask a pre-professional advisor at your school for more information.

A top 50 school is good news. I have never heard of a financial package restricting the classes you are allowed to take. That sounds off to me. Perhaps you have gpa requirements?

From most of what I read (and it is not my area of much know how), having a high gpa/performing well in class, esp your sciences premeds are most critical. As is the MCAT score. Major is not critical. Sociology should be fine.

But I don’t see how CC classes could help you. You need upper level classes like stated above, post-bac classes. You also need a Plan B. There should be good ones.
