you have really good stats academically but your extra curriculars don’t show much focus or passion. they are good, but not outstanding, you know what i mean? however i think overall you are a strong applicant that will have much success in college and afterwards. I think you have a shot at all the colleges you mentioned, expect the Ivies may be reaches.

you’re a strong candidate

consider some liberal arts colleges too

also, there are 30 departments in your high school?

You don’t “need” us to chance you. You want us to.

You have a solid ACt and solid subject test scores - your EC’s are also pretty good. BS/MD Programs are terribly difficult to get into, and I’m not really familiar with the whole system - so I’m not too sure about that, but for the other schools, here’s what I think:

Brown - slightly reach (I mean, it’s a reach for anyone- Any ivy school is)
Northwestern - Match
Harvard - Reach
Duke - Match
Yale - Reach

All the other top tier schools (i.e. UofC, WUSTL, etc) should all be matches/slightly reach.

I could comment better if you included ethnicity, AP scores, hooks, etc.

Good luck!

Chance back?

Thank you! :]

you’re in NEOUCOM, I have several friends there and their academic stats were all significantly lower then your own. The others however are VERY difficult to get into. Why? NEOUCOM is limited to Ohio residents, so the pool of applicants is quite small. The other programs are national, and extremely competitive - As luck would have it, I have toured both Brown and Northwestern recently, and the admit rates for both of their BS/MD programs hover between 1 and 2 percent - AKA extremely low. Because of this admissions into those programs are a crap-shoot for (nearly) everyone.

Oops. My school calls them departmental awards. But I mean, I get awards Like Top Math Student, Top Chemistry Student, Top Speech, etc. And yes, I really would love to get into a BS/MD program at a larger institution, but I don’t think I have the stats to do so unfortunately. I don’t know what else to do; I don’t want to “pad” my resume. I just like to follow my passions. I love to get involved and stay busy, meet people, and so I join a lot of clubs, not to mention, I take strong leadership roles in most of them. But science is definitely my passion. So I decided to take an AP Bio course through Brigham Young University online this summer. Thanks to everyone who chanced me. I sincerely appreciate it.

Can you provide a bit more detail about yourself i.e. your race/gender, etc.?

Yes, of course. I am an Indian female. I come from a small town and feel extremely limited by the opportunities my school offers, like classes, but that is definitely no excuse. I want to get involved in cancer research, but the closest institution that offers that is Cleveland Clinic and I wouldn’t be able to get transportation there daily. I want to gain further knowledge of a career in medicine, and I do what I can, but how can I convey my genuine passion on my resume? I feel like I’m asking more than a chance, and I apologize, but if you could help, that be fantastic. thank you again!

The BS/MD programs are not likely except maybe U Cincinnati. I have you have a shot there. But apart from that, your ECs don’t show much passion for medicine.

I volunteer at the hospital, job shadow a surgeon, show aptitude in the sciences, take a summer AP bio course- pretty much everything in my capability. I wish I could do clinical or lab research, but I have a transportation issue. What else can I do to show my passion for medicine?

Maybe write one of your essays about it?

Harvard and Yale are reaches but that goes for everyone. You have exceptionally strong academic stats and good ec’s, and you look fine for the others. I would apply ED at brown if serious.

CHANCE ME BACK!!!

I’d say you’re very likely to get in to all of your schools minus Harvard and Brown. Not a ding on you but on the selectivity. I’ve seen people less qualified get in to Northwestern. Good Luck!

Chance me back too please.

I also got 5’s on AP Chem, Lit, and Gov. Does that help significantly?

and I am valedictorian of a relatively competitive school.

BUMP. I’m doing last minute apps and need to know if it’s worth my time to apply to Cornell or U. of Penn.

*Forgot to add the hint of urgency in the previous BUMP.
