I attended this really amazing, life-changing, mind-boggling, totally fantastic, heavenly 5-week academic program this past summer. It was called the Governor's School of North Carolina.

It has literally been on my mind on and off since it ended (call me obsessed) and I would really like to somehow incorporate it into my Common Application essay, if possible. The problem is, I'm not sure which prompt it would go under. Help??

Well, what speaks to you the most about your summer program?

Has it redefined the way you approach life and school and is thus “central to your identity”? See prompt 1.

Did it push you and challenge you in ways in which you experienced and overcame failure? See prompt 2.

Did it push you to think in ways/approach academic discourse in new ways? See prompt 3.

Were you perfectly content there? See prompt 4.

Do you now think of yourself as an ‘adult’ in some way for having lived alone/thought deeply? See prompt 5.

The better question is, what strikes you about the experience now? What is the first thing you tell people when they ask you abou this summer?

@andrew I’m so sorry for hijacking your thread but… @purpleacorn I found the advice you gave really instructive, and I was wondering if you would like to take a look at 2 or 3 essays of mine? Would really appreciate it!
