I scored a 1270: Is this a good score?

I scored a 1270 on the PSAT, and I have a few questions. Obviously it is not going to make me recognized as one of the smartest people, and I do not qualify for the NMSC, but is this a good score? By that I mean is it a good enough score that I can have high hopes for the SAT and eventually get into a good college?
I really want to go to the University of Michigan, and pursue a career in orthodontics. Additionally, as there any advice or programs that people have used that increased their score or other’s to almost perfect?
I am a high school sophomore by the way. Thank you!

The median (25/75) SAT score for UMich Class of 2023 is 1,380-1,540.

When I took the PSAT I got an 1190 By the time I was applying to high-level and Ivy League colleges I had a 1500. Yes there is hope haha. If you put in some work it goes up very readily.

When my d20 was a sophomore, she got a 1310. Last March, as a junior, she got a 1560. She worked really hard and studied a lot. But it’s doable! Good luck!

Maximum score on the PSAT is 1520.

Not really relevant when discussing PSAT scores, which are on a different scoring scale.

I’ll definitely disagree.

First, the OP wants to know what a good score is in order to attend UMich. I made the OP aware of the current median SAT score of accepted students at UMich. The objective of the OP is to attend UMich. I gave UMich’s median (25/75) SAT score.

Second, as I’ve read in the material, since we just received my 2021’s score, the PSAT score may have a different scale (1,520), but it’s certainly an indication of what “you” would have scored on the SAT, if taken that day. And you have to do read the CB website, which states the PSAT is “highly relevant to your future success" on the SAT. They even provide percentiles of where students fall within their cohort.

The OP is a sophomore, so the OP has plenty of time before taking the actual SAT.
