I screwed ONE YEAR.WHATS GONNA HAPPEN TO ME?

I had perfect grades until I kinda messed up my Junior year grades (let's just say...tons of Bs and a C) due to the overwhelming schedule. I'm a senior (duhh..). Am I screwed? Do I still have a chance to prove that I can get good grades this semester?
What should I do? HELPPPP

Yeah, junior year was pretty much the worst year to screw up. If you apply early to schools and get deferred, you will have a chance to show them your senior grades.

You gotta know that your Junior year grades are the most important grades on your transcript, 'cause they kind of tell the adcom which direction you’re headed. Your goal now is to find a way to show that Junior year was an aberration.

Have you considered writing your essay on “My Junior Year Calamity … and what I did about it.” Naturally you’ll need straight A’s fall of your Senior Year … but this might work, especially if you can get your GC on board to write a support letter indicating how well you rebounded Senior Year.

So basically I’m screwed forever? I hate how senior grades don’t matter as much

You’re not “screwed forever” because where you go to college isn’t going to decide forever. If you’re asking whether you’ll get into CalTech, well, that might be an issue, at least as things stand now. But I can’t emphasize enough, you can still get into a fine college or university and make your mark there.

The college you go to doesn’t define what the rest of your life will be. Anytime someone disputes this I tell them of a college friend from a small LAC few people know, a good school but not one that anyone would call highly selective. We were friends but went separate ways after graduation. So I googled him one day and learned that he has a Ph.D. in chemistry, holds patents, and is an innovator and inventor. He’s one of the foremost biochemists in the world. (And by the way, he didn’t even have the highest GPA in our [highly] social fraternity, let alone his department.) So even in hard core science, you don’t need to go to MIT.

NewHope’s suggestion about the essay is a good one, but you’ll need a better excuse than “overwhelming schedule” given that there will certainly be applicants at elite schools with that same schedule and better grades. Your GC or faculty recommendation will go far in speaking to the issues.

The remainder of your application will obviously be critical. If you have killer test scores, great EC’s, great recommendations, and great essays, you could get lucky with a deferral, which will give you the opportunity to do something special as a senior pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Screwed forever? Of course not. You may not get into the top colleges, but there are still plenty of great colleges that will accept you. And you can always transfer later if you really want to. My advise is, don’t stress out too much, just get it right your senior year, and in your application, tell the truth of what really happened. Pour your heart into it because lying won’t get you far at that point.

I’m kind of in the same boat. But I screwed up first semester, and by screwed up I mean 2 Ds and 4 Cs; second semester was 4 As however. How screwed am I?

at Skidmore, one lady was saying they prefer the students with AP courses and B+'s over the kids who take easier courses and get a high A. Were these AP or honors courses? many colleges take that into consideration, certainly not the most selective, but still very selective ones.

Yeah they were all APs

theres always community college.
there are always options.
go to college

GogoBlueDevilz & ohno ohmy:

You’re not screwed and you can get into a college. With those grades, you don’t have to go to community college. Start looking at your state schools. You’re grades can still get you in, granted you work super hard this year. Also, your essay should focus on why your grades dropped and how plan to fix them. Of course, make sure your essay doesn’t sound like you are making excuses for your mistakes. Own up to them. Be honest.

lol seriously… 4 Bs is like what… if he got As all of grade 9 and 10, that’s still a very high GPA.

Same with the other guy. a bit more Bs, but still a decent GPA. It’s over, you can’t go back to the past, so just apply wherever you want, and hope you get in.
