I study so hard yet do so bad?

So I’m currently a junior with a 3.3 w gpa projected to be a 3.5 w by the end of junior year. I’m in many honors and AP classes. Recently I had midterms and I keep getting 80’s on all of them. (Out of 100) I studied so much for my US history midterm and got an 80. My friend got a 94 and she kept asking me questions because I knew all of the material. I don’t know why I did so bad. I did over 100 practice questions too. This isn’t the first time it always happens to me! I study so much and feel like I’m getting nothing out of it. Any tips?

May be the case you are trying too hard. You know the material but with pressure you are putting on yourself, you are too wound up for what you know to shine through come test time. I would suggest relaxing a little.

Also, do your teachers give your exams back? If so, review them to see what you got wrong and why and look to correct it. Its possible you don’t need to study harder or longer but study smarter. Looking at tests would help you determine this.

Good luck.

I agree with @saillakeerie. Don’t push yourself too hard. Study slow and take breaks in between study sessions.

Good luck with your finals!

You sound like you’re studying fine; it might be an issue with your test taking skills. Do you get really stressed during tests?
