I apologize for the stupid, probably redundant questions, but I'm running out of answers. I'm getting zero financial aid because my EFC was so high, and I'm trying to figure out what to do from this point.

My friends keep mentioning something about not including retirement savings somewhere on FAFSA? I was just wondering what they were talking about, because I don't remember doing that anywhere.

Is this is the assets portion? Or the other investments portion?

For example, I know there's a question when they ask for parent assets (cash, savings, etc)
If our parents' entire (or almost entire) savings is devoted to retirement, were we supposed to leave it out, or still put it all?

I don't know, FAFSA was just all around confusing to me.

Yeah I have the same question :) I think I might screw up my FAFSA too, btw Miss Zanna, Austin didn't offer you any aid right? They offered in me 20k...

IN LOANS cry

And my parents don't even make that much :(

Ther retirement assets are those your parents hold in accounts such as 401K's and IRS'a. In other words, investment vehicles specifically set up for retirement purposes.

You DON'T include dedicated retirement accounts (IRA's, 401K's Keoghs) as assets in FAFSA-- they're exempt. BUT, if your parents have money in savings or stocks that's simply earmarked (by the parents) for retirement, that gets reported.

I don't know, my page still doesn't work :/
I already have Texas paid for with scholarships though, so I don't really care about them plus we could afford 20k per year anyway.
Are you going to try and appeal?

Thanks sblake7, I think I have to just call the school and talk to them about this.
