Well, boys and girls:
I think its time to re-vitalize my two previous threads, combining them into one.
Now that the class of 2020 is pretty well intact, it would be interesting to hear from some of you admits, as to which schools you turned down in favor of Claremont. Last year’s thread included Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Dartmouth, Brown, Penn, Cornell, Pomona, Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, Bowdoin, Middlebury,Duke, Vandy, UCBerkeley, UCLA , U of Chicago, among others.
In conjunction with this thread, it looks like - for the second year in a row- 4 of the 5 most selective LACs ,based on admit rate only, are part of the Claremont consortium.
I won’t do all the usual disclaimers…I know, ,admit rate is not necessarily the only indicator of how selective a college is…Pitzer a ‘better’ / more selective school than Amherst, or Williams? Of course not. .
But, it is interesting that the Claremont consortium is gaining recognition nationally/internationally,which is far overdue IMO.
On the list below, the only change in top 5 is, last year, Claremont McKenna was the most selective LAC w 9.76% admit rate, barely edging out Pomoma. For class of 2020, Pomona was #1,with rate of 9.2%,edging out CMC at 9.4%, which is not surprising.in light of the fact that Forbes rated them #1 In the country…,not just for LACs but for all colleges and universities.

Admission rates have been going down at many colleges as students apply to more and more schools (via the Common App, in particular). This includes top LACs.
