I've personally never heard of anyone who got a 0 for using the wrong type of lead. In fact, I know several people who used mechanical pencils (a bit no-no) and still got their scores. Don't worry about it for now. I really doubt you'll actually get a 0.

mechanical pencils have nothing to do with the type of lead! I used a mechanical pencil and it uses #2 lead. However, I'm not sure what to do in your case. Someone said you can request to hand-score, if this is the case, I would opt for this option. If not, you might just have to retake it.

btw, i used a mechanical with .07 lead for the entire test when I got 2320. as long as you fill in the bubbles dark enough it doesn't matter. as long as the lead looks black it's fine...if it's gray then it's the wrong lead.

btw just to clarify again, i only used it for the essay, and the lead of the 2.5 pencil seems to be lighter than the no. 2. So for all other 9 sections i used the correct pencil, just the acutal writing the essay i messed up.

Yeah, seriously, don't worry about it until you get your scores. Unless you used pen on the SAT, you really shouldn't freak out.

Also, you can request your test to be handscored if you think the score you got was wrong. However, the essay can't be handscored.

If you're in the class of '10, you especially don't need to worry because you'll be allowed to choose which scores you'd like to report to colleges.

calm down
nothing will happen because of the pencil difference
if you are really worried call up collegeboard or email them and tell them about your situation
