I used the wrong pencil!

i took the SAT I in October, and for the essay i wrote in a no. 2.5 F pencil or some crap.

I did not realize it until I finished the essay, so i wrote the multiple choice in a no. 2 pencil.

So what happens when i use a 2.5 pencil?!! will my essay count?????

if the scanner can't scan it, you will get a 0.

you can pay for hand scoring, chill out

I've personally never heard of anyone who got a 0 for using the wrong type of lead. In fact, I know several people who used mechanical pencils (a bit no-no) and still got their scores. Don't worry about it for now. I really doubt you'll actually get a 0.

oh err how do i tell them to hand score it?

i did it in mechanical....because i hate sharpening since i loose speed, and got a 12 last time..

yea but lead pencils can still be like #2

my pencil was 2.5, and it was lighter than my no. 2 pencil
so will my essay show?

mechanical pencils have nothing to do with the type of lead! I used a mechanical pencil and it uses #2 lead. However, I'm not sure what to do in your case. Someone said you can request to hand-score, if this is the case, I would opt for this option. If not, you might just have to retake it.

btw, i used a mechanical with .07 lead for the entire test when I got 2320. as long as you fill in the bubbles dark enough it doesn't matter. as long as the lead looks black it's fine...if it's gray then it's the wrong lead.

btw just to clarify again, i only used it for the essay, and the lead of the 2.5 pencil seems to be lighter than the no. 2. So for all other 9 sections i used the correct pencil, just the acutal writing the essay i messed up.

anyways, thanks everybody

i really hope it doesn't matter

That's okay -- I put all of my grid-ins on the wrong page. We all make mistakes sometimes, but you'll survive with 2.5 lead.

Yeah, seriously, don't worry about it until you get your scores. Unless you used pen on the SAT, you really shouldn't freak out.

Also, you can request your test to be handscored if you think the score you got was wrong. However, the essay can't be handscored.

If you're in the class of '10, you especially don't need to worry because you'll be allowed to choose which scores you'd like to report to colleges.

thanks skullduggery and rockermcr

eh, if worse comes to worse i guess i'll just try to get my essay verified or something

it doesn't matter, especially for the essay section. Your safe.

you have to remember in order for people to grade it, it has to be scanned.
if a 2.5 lead won't register, they can't grade it.

so a blank paper gets a 0

I doubt it would fail to scan even if you used an H pencil or whatever.

so a blank paper gets a 0

Clearly. What I'm saying is that I doubt 2.5 lead won't register.

calm down
nothing will happen because of the pencil difference
if you are really worried call up collegeboard or email them and tell them about your situation

aiight, i really hope it'll count either way
anyways, thanks a lot guys
