I used to believe

I thought that when waiters asked "soup or salad?" they were saying "super salad?"

I thought that:
"Daughter" and "son" were actually "dollar" and "sun."
Leprechauns are really small little green people that live in grass, and if you find one, you'll get to have one wish.
To get pregnant, you just have to wait until your belly swelled up.
If you eat a watermelon seed, a watermelon tree would start growing in you.
Dr. as in Drive was actually Doctor.
Volleyball was pronounced Ballyball.
People playing football were actually praying.

i thought JEL-"Just Eliminate Lies" was "Just Elminiate Lives." lol

i used to believe that "chicken" meat didn't come from the animal, that "pork" didn't come from pigs, that "beef' didn't come from cows. when i learned that it did, I was like, "WHAT THE HELL, YOU PEOPLE ARE KILLING POOR ANIMALS JUST TO EAT THIS TYPE OF FOOD?"

(but I became vegetarian at 13, not immediately after that realization)

i used to believe that PETA was a legitimate source to cite

i used to believe that I'd be able to go through my entire life more happily without ever getting a girlfriend or getting laid even if I was given the opportunity of getting one that was guaranteed to last

i used to believe that SAT IIs were hard to self-study.

i used to believe that i would be happiest if i spent my entire life studying math/science marie curie-style.

i used to believe that playing computer games could make you smarter just because the people at HeavenGames are smarter than your average classmates - when it's really selection bias that tends to make forumers smarter than your average classmates

i used to believe that I would be permanently loyal to my online gaming clan no matter what

i used to believe that my favorite place to live would be Triton because it was the coldest place known in the solar system (in 1997)
[but actually when i quizzed people about it - one person made the astute reply "the coldest place in the universe is where-ever the scientists are conducting experiments near absolute zero!]

(i've always had a pro-cold weather bias though)

i used to believe that you'd go to heaven if you were a good Christian, and to hell if you weren't one

i used to argue that you couldn't use the example of soviet russia's failure to use communism as an argument against communism because I thought that soviet russia's system wasn't true communism. well, the thing is, there are different types of each ideal government

i used to believe that my parents were always right (hah, we all did)

i used to believe that illegal drugs are all bad for you and that people who do drugs are slackers with no redeeming qualities.

i used to believe that schools were the best way to learn any subject and consequently got all excited over covering such subjects in school - only to realize that public schools almost always cover MOST subjects at an extremely shallow level of depth (there may be exceptions when a student is inspired to work on an inspiring project, but most projects aren't like that)

i used to be an atheist (now i'm desperately hoping that my consciousness is proof of some mysterious life force existing that brings about consciousness - i don't find any of the other religions credible)

i used to believe in the power of anecdotal evidence in such arbitrary correlations such as "become vegetarian => increase your energy levels" or "miracles => proof that god exists"

i used to believe that homeschooling involved forcing your parents to TEACH THE MATERIAL TO YOU, rather than self-directed learning (this was exactly why I ultimately didn't drop out of school to homeschool myself, blahhh)

[and to think of it, i was extremely successful in my self-study back in 8th-9th grades despite my excursions to computer games and forums => it totally removed my backwardedness and made me competitive in 10th grade]

i used to think that hard work was more important than genetics in determining intelligence (then i somehow came across this stupid scientific american article that demolished that belief by showing the huge freaking correlations right there)

Trust me I'm 22 now and I can see that this still stands true. For many people that is. I always thought my parents were wrong but now that I think of it and have learned from them I realize they are almost always right. I didn't necessarily agree with them but saw their points as an uplifting argument that sought to better me in any capacity.

I really believed in Santa Claus.

I used to think that everything was a black and white matter.

Oh yeah get this, I once asked my parents in front of their parents (my grandparents) if my grandparents have any kids ;] I thought because I never saw little kids like me run around my grandparents house then they must not have them.

Shades of gray, man. Shades of gray.

When I was under 10, I believed in God.

When I was little I thought etc. stood for ectional and variety was said vy-ar-ity.

It is pronounced vy-ar-ity, silly girl.

I used to believe that:

Las Vegas was in New York.

Little dolphins poked their noses in toilets. (strange, I know)

My parrents didn't have parrents. (Grandparrents were just people in our family)

I used to think that when I spun around in circles and got dizzy, the whole world was actually spinning.
I used to think that there were people who lived behind the electric outlets and if you put your finger in their, they would bite you.

^ I used to think that my brain would turn around in my head if I spun around in circles.

I also used to think that people worked in vending machines, because my friend told me that he would work in one when he grew up.

i used to think that washington dc was in washington, like someone else said. when i first learned that it wasn't, i was like WHAT?!

i used to think that nobody lived anywhere other than new jersey and new york and maybe california, and there were some ppl from like turkey and i was like people actualy LIVE there? it was either that or people from everywhere else in the world lived in a huge desert and they're all nomads or something.

and i also thout that harvard was the only skool in the universe other than community college, and anyone who doesn't get in (and only like 1 person/year get in) then you're screwed.

yay!

I used to believe that Bill Clinton was actually George Washington whenever he was on TV. (George Washington was The President, and that never changed, duh!)

Red was my favorite color and green was my least favorite color. I used to believe that you stopped at a red light since people liked to enjoy the beautiful red color, and you drove through a green light since green was an ugly color and nobody wanted to look at it.

I used to believe that there were two kinds of people: with glasses and without glasses. What I see without glasses is what my dad (who has glasses) sees with glasses, and what my dad sees without glasses (blurry) is what I see with glasses on (blurry again). I was mad that God made me a no-glasses person.

And this one is kinda random: I am Indian, and my parents (doctors) host an office Christmas party for all their nurses and receptionists etc every year. One time my Indian friend wanted to come, but I said no since only white people came. I'm less racist now, I promise :)!

i used to think anyone with long black hair was my mom. so i was at the trainstation and then i saw another asian woman and i followed her around.
