I wanna get out of California!

I went to Vanden! (and live in cowtown). I’m in cc right now hoping to transfer to either one of 3 private schools or CSU MB. But the OP’s stats are slightly higher than mine.

If he wants a new experience go to a northeast state city school. Different weather = cold. Different environment = urban. Different attitudes = not as laidback!! New York University?

i appriciate the posts and help but can i get some matches from my stats?

wow, I wished I lived in Cali.

I am Asian and I live in the deep South, not a good place for Asians I can tell you that much. I plan on living in Cali in the future.

Those kids have so many options for colleges, the UCs and other colleges like Stanford and life there is so laid back and chill and it can be quick at the same time if you live in LA. Man I am so going to live in Cali for at least 10 years of my life, even if it means I have to live in Compton.

Cali
Massachusetts
New York
Washington
Oregon
North Carolina
Virginia
perhaps even Hell

I would prefer those places over GA.

"can i get some matches from my stats? "

Aside from some CSU’s, not easy… what’s your math and cr?

in my personal opinion, California is the best State in the US, bar none.

I my personal opinion, I would live anywhere else in the US other than California.

But really, i think Michigan State is a great choice.

I would also look at a lot of the SEC state schools. Florida, Georgia, and possibly Alabama would be out of reach but maybe think about Tennessee or LSU.

I would also highly recommend Kansas, Missouri, Pitt, and Texas A&M. All great schools that you should be able to get into (except for maybe Pitt) and without terribly expensive OOS tuition. Actually, I would highly recommend Kansas - amazing campus and extremelly under-rated.

Good Luck.

“Michigan State is a great choice.”

But he’s looking for matches. Is that a match?

[College Search - Michigan State University - MSU - At a Glance](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board;

Look at post #12

Shrinkrap. I have to agree with you. With a 3.3w gpa from OOS, MSU is a reach and not a match.

but wouldnt my cali residency be a plus because i am so much out of their normal area of students? thanks for all the posts

Used to be, but UCs now average $26K, and CSUs around $20K. That’s a pretty steep cost considering the deterioration that both systems are suffering at the moment – decreasing new enrollment, fewer class offerings, increasing class sizes, cuts in student services. I would not want my kid going to a public school here right now.

true true
the sysetem is going in a downward trend

California is great if you like sunny non-humid weather and if you enjoy taking trips. Otherwise, the state is lame to live in unless you have a lot of money. Our PA house was much bigger …

OP: I strongly suggest Syracuse University in New York. It will be a completely different environment for you in every way. You might barely get in with those SATs, though.

“Our PA house was much bigger …”

If you had a large house in Palo Alto ¶, why are you complaining?

Just kidding!

hmm syracuse…sounds interesting

[blaw] By PA I meant Pennsylvania. We moved to CA out of a job offer and are finding it very expensive comparitively speaking. You are being very high school to assume such things.

Here are some matches for you -
University of Oregon
Oregon State
Washington State
University of Kansas
Indiana University (a reach possibly)
Arizona State
University of Arizona
University of Hawaii

There are many more OOS schools that you should look into - go buy the Fiske guide to college. Your stats are very much like my son’s and he has applied to nearly all of the schools I’ve listed for you for fall '10. And we are from California, too.

^^^Good suggestions from elizabeth. Check out U of Iowa too. On the admissions site there is a formula where you can easily determine admissions using a points system. Used to be the least expensive Big Ten for OOS, not sure anymore.

Is money no object? Do you realize that by going OOS (without merit $$$ help) that you’ll be paying a lot - either at a private or public?

Is your GPA including EVERYTHING…including PE and electives? Some colleges do not take those classes out…some take whatever your highest GPA is on transcript - which includes PE, electives…and in some cases…religion.

If you include PE and such, is your GPA higher???

The Univesity of Alabama has a good Kinesiology program…here is the link to the department…
[Department of Kinesiology](http://kinesiology.ua.edu/)
and here is the link to the various Kinesiology programs/degrees…
http://kinesiology.ua.edu/degrees.html</a></p>

And, as you know, it has a big sports program…since you played football for 4 years, you might be interested in going to a sports school…that is also an academic school.

UA is also reasonably priced for OOS students. And, if your GPA is actually higher (UA takes all classes for GPA - they take highest GPA on transcript), you might get a scholarship…what is your SAT score (Math + Critical Reading)?
