I want the inside scoop on parties!

Drinking isn't "required", but given the fact that at frat parties they give you a cup on the way in after you pay the cover and it's your ticket back in if you go out, there's no doubt about what's expected. And no, they're really no fun if you're not drinking. You can't possible carry on a normal coversation (if you happen to find someone at a frat party who isn't drinking either) in that kind of atmosphere, so your options will be clear: drink, go home, or stand in a corner with nothing to do.

BTW, never go to a frat party by yourself where you don't immediately know people. I got back from one a while ago (im still kinda buzzed, but mostly the drunkeness has worn off) where this kid was obviously by himself. I'd seen him just kind of wandering around campus and he was doing the same there. He was drinking all the while and he wasn't outgoing at all, so he wasn't even talking to anyone. Needless to say, he just passed out on a couch and no one even noticed him. Make friends, then go out. Really people.

Hey How come the drinking age is 21?!
i've been drinking and im 18, now im moving to USA to study and i should stop cuz im 18?
That is so 'weird'!

Okay, so I've been at school all of... 10 dayshaha, but the few parties and casual drinking in the dorm I've encountered, several people have abstained and all f us who were drinking were ALL like, "wow, good for you, that's awesome" in a serious not just kidding way, so as long as your with people you like who like you and are decent people, no one's going to force you to drink, and will most likely comment on how cool it is that you aren't drinking.

Who the hell would want to abstain from alcohol? Give them a few weekends of being alone in their dorms at night to change their minds. Don't take this too seriously, but to some extent there is truth to it. The party scene in college I discovered two whole days into it was nothing like I expected. The availability, the willingness of my friends to go out all turned me into an alcoholic. Just kidding, alcoholics go to meetings and are trying to stop, I just want some more.

"The availability, the willingness of my friends to go out all turned me into an alcoholic."

You're proud of this?

"Who the hell would want to abstain from alcohol?"

I did, and many others choose to.

Eh ... I drink when I feel like it. Which isn't all the time.

some of the things people say on this board...shakes head.

when alcohol is necessary to have a good time, then that's bad news.

but the people in my hall who are hardcore abstinent are, in fact, pretty dull people.

Kids,

If you're ever stuck in a situation where you feel pressured to drink, and for some reason can't belly up to saying no, just grab a beer can, go to the bathroom, dump it and put in water/soda, and nobody will no the diff or bug ya.

Works great.

dont go if u dont want to drink, frat parties are all about that and if u dont drink you'll feel really awkward.

"Who the hell would want to abstain from alcohol?"

Some people simply just have better things to do.
