I want to be a teacher...eventually.

Hello all.

I'm a senior high school student who is thinking about the long term. Now, I fully understand that I what I think I want to do now may change completely in a year, but I feel that this is something that will stay with me for the foreseeable future.

I want to be an engineer, foremost. I feel that the best way I can improve the world we live in is through engineering. Not only that, of course, I also enjoy math and science greatly and have been interested in engineering for as long as I can remember.

Yet, I also like to teach! I've taught a few classes before to both high school age students and to adults and I take great pleasure in imparting knowledge to others.

So, my question is: Is it feasible for someone to work in industry for a period of time, retire, then become a teacher?

definitely
I had a teacher who was VP at Ben's and Jerry's and I think he was some kind of engineer. He was my Algebra 2 teacher and he was one of the best teachers at my school. Everyone loves him because he always had an answer when people ask "when can you use _______ in real life?" He had so much experience that he knew math is relevant in pretty much everything in life. Having a background in engineering will let you know more and maybe you can even teach at the college level

teaching doesn't require any previous work experience/internships... there are always ways you can crack into teaching, even without an education degree or something
