I can't believe how many people are telling you to stick it out, despite the fact that you are miserable. Your life won't be ruined if you drop out of school (it worked for a few fantastic college students I can think of ;)).

Dude, I've been there. I'm in my Senior year and I've just felt burnt out by HS. The school, the classes, the homework, the same people...I'm ready for a change. But you have to stick with it until the end. Trust me, having your HS diploma looks much better than having a GED.

I advise that you complete high school, you have come so far, I would not quit now. A 3.0 is very respectable gpa, don't be hard on yourself. You will must likely quilify for a main campus and/or an honors program at a great community college. You have options which you will see once you do the research.
I would also advise that you seek out a professional mental health advisor whom you can speak with on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This person maybe able to help you make decisions about your future.

i have a 3.0 gpa as well and i thought of dropping out because of external pressures, i never told anybody, but people indirectly told me that education is the most important and most accomplishing feats one can achieve...my suggestion...don't drop out now...a h.s. diploma is very valuable...

you need to remember that what you are in high school does not lead to what you will be later in life.

you could be unpopular now and be rich and successful with millions of friends later on in life, or vice versa.

stop worrying about friends now and just focus on your academics. if you go away for college the people who know from high school will not follow because they are going to their own colleges. This will force you to meet new people.

just remember to maintain a positive attitude and try to be the best person you can be.

The OP already has colleges in mind. He can check their requirements. Harvard and Princeton are just some of the colleges that don't require any high school graduation credential.

I sort of have the same feeling as you. I used to be a good student, but my intelligence has been slacking these days. I can't focus anymore. You don't need to get into a good college to be successful. Start a business, expand, profit. With your own business, you set your own wage by how hard you work instead of a set wage.

I totally understand! If you were a junior I would say skip senior year. But alas, you're a senior. You are almost done. Spend the last semester concentrating on your school work, deal with your depression, and, as a freshmen in the fall, have fun! You want to get into a good college, so finish your high school education, as painful as it seems, and remember people do care. Let loose once in a while, it helps.

I'd recommend against it since it might reflect negatively to college admissions boards. Unless you specifically reveal it in your personal statement or elsewhere, they might take it as a sign of someone who doesn't finish what they start. This may be especially true considering that you'd be dropping out at the end as a senior.

Don't drop out, a GED is just a supplement for a hs diploma. they are different. I had a friend like you and he transferred to a public school and ended up happier. Good luck with everything though.
