I want to get into Education Policy... what would I major in?

So I'm most likely attending Berkeley next year, and I'm somewhat conflicted on what I want to do.

Part of me wants to pursue pre-med but part of me wants to get into education policy in the future. (I know I could do both by being a non-science pre-med student.)

ANYWAY, if I were to pursue education policy (a future career might be superintendent, education law, etc. - not really sure yet) what would I major in? Political Science? Economics? And take minors in GSPP and the Grad School of Education?

Also, how are the relevant departments quality-wise?

Thanks :)

Bump! Any input? Thanks!

I would suggest looking into Sociology or Social Welfare.

Assuming that you’re in L&S, you won’t be locked into a major so you can explore your science and education related interests freshman year. The graduate programs in the departments you mentioned are all ranked in the top 10 nationally, so you’ll have the opportunity to take classes with world-class professors regardless of your major. The minors in public policy and education are both excellent and should complement whichever program you choose, even if you decide to focus on pre-med.

look into ISF!

Depending on your area of interest in education policy, consider American Cultures, American Studies, Political Science, Economics, or Urban Studies (in C. of Environmental Design), in addition to the majors other posters mentioned. Whatever major you choose, I’s recommend coursework in at least principles of economics and quantitative methods (statistics).
