I have nice academics, and 2 patents pending. is it possible that students get this much of financial aid?
Financial aid at MIT is need based. Honestly, unlikely.
Nobody can say how much is possible. You’ll be given an amount needed to attend if you’re accepted.
MIT’s Student Financial Services site (http://sfs.mit.edu/) has a wealth of financial aid information.
That site includes Net Price Calculators, where you can get an estimate for the amount of aid MIT would give you.
It’s only an estimate, and it’s only as good as the data you enter into it, but it’s likely your best bet to answer your question.
Have you looked at the FAFSA and are you Pell Grant Eligible ? (US citizen ).
Have you looked at the CSS Profile yet? You will need to fill in both the FAFSA and CSS Profile to
qualify for financial aid from MIT or any other private institution in the USA and some public colleges too.
Do the detailed calculation here with the net price calculator.
However if your parents are divorced, own a business or you are an international student,
this will NOT be accurate.
I doubt it. Hey, you never know but it’s likely that they are going to ask you to kick in more than that even if you are low income.
I’m an international student, then how to find out the estimated fee? And, what would you recommend for an international student: applying Early action or regular? Thanks
@happyandcheerful
Curious. Did you read the MIT financial aid web pages noted above?
And did you run the net price calculator?
Financial aid for international students is the same as domestic students. That policy is one reason why the international admit rate is so low.
Why ask here when the MIT web site has all the information you need? If you don’t understand the web site, call them.
Learn to do your own research from the proper sources. A pet peeve of mine is those who just ask questions on boards and don’t do their own research. As a professional engineer you are expected to be a problem solver and just not push your problems onto others. Learn that now.
“Nice academics” will no get you in. You need superior academics, better than virtually anyone else in your country
Run the net price calculator. It’ll give you an idea.
However your odds are less than 3% so start looking as the other universities that are strong in science (Lafayette, Bucknell, wpi, ASU, Case Western reserve, Harvey Mudd…)
Complete the NPC. If the result is unreasonable, don’t bother applying. Focus on those schools where you can get merit aid.
If you want a top college like MIT, yes, your sure better start researching what they have to say. They only take the best kids that they want. That’s much, much nore than academics and patents. And it’s all discussed on their web site, as said.
