I want to self study! Are these books good?

Hey Guys!
You can call me crazy and tell me that I can't do it. I don't care either way (i am not saying this in a mean way). I want to self study 13 APs this year! I know this sounds impossible, but I believe that I can do it (have a lot of confidence and know someone who did 11 and got 10 5s) and I really want to go to Harvard, Princeton, or MIT. Because I want to have a 100% admission chance next year, I will do everything I can possible do.
However, I am not sure whether this book list is fine or not... Please add, subtract, or recommend new books for self studying aps...Do you guys think that I should study textbooks as well or are prep books enough? please tell me! I will be thankful for any advice!

AP Calculus BC- Princeton Review or Arco taking precalc right now, but math is my strength and i feel that i can study ahead easily...
AP Statistics- Barrons
AP Psychology- Barrons
AP Chemistry- Princeton Review, 5 steps to a 5?
AP U.S. History- REA
AP World History- Princeton Review, Barron
AP Env. Science- smartypants guide, barrons?
AP Physics C- Princeton Review or Barrons?
AP Art History- The annotated Mona Lisa
AP Government- PR
AP comparative- PR
AP English Lit- Barrons
AP European history- Rea, modern European history?

I know that I have no life ;)

tigerclaw

Woah, 13APs in 1 year!?!, that's 1 less than what I'll have in 4 years (I'll have 14)

OK, so what I've used (with my scores) or currently using

AP Calculus BC- Arco (which is now Peterson's) (5)
AP Statistics- Barrons (5)
AP Chemistry- Princeton Review (5)
AP U.S. History- Kaplan and PR (5)
AP Physics C- currently using a textbook: Fundamentals of Physics Halliday/Resnick
AP Government- Barrons and REA (5)
AP Comparative- Ethel Woods
AP English Lit- Cliffs

Some comments, Peterson's practice mc test is really close to the 1998 AP Calc BC practice test. For me I just did a lot of problems.

For Stats, if you can do the Barrons book with ease, the test will be really easy. Chemistry, I think the consensus is PR here, but like all other math-based sciences and math, just do a lot of problems. For Eng Lit, the Cliffs author was actually an AP test writer for quite a few number of years.

AP Art History- The annotated Mona Lisa, REA

Yeah, assuming you go through with this, I think you have a possibility of being rejected for going through with this. LOL
Though if you're interested it's fine.

I would like to self-study: AP Psychology, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, AP Computer Science AB, AP Statistics, and AP English Language/Lit this year... but I'm not sure how brave I am. I'll be paying attention to the book suggestions though.

Good luck!

self studying 13 AP's will NOT give you a 100% chance of of admissions to any school...nothing will.

ps. get amsco for us history

There's no such thing as 100% in admissions. Back on topic

AP Calculus BC- PR and "Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam" (amazon it)
AP Statistics- Barrons
AP Psychology- Barrons
AP Chemistry- Princeton Review
AP U.S. History- REA or AMSCO
AP World History- Barrons
AP Env. Science- ?
AP Physics C- Barrons
AP Art History- Mona Lisa, REA
AP Government- PR
AP comparative- PR
AP English Lit- Cliffs
AP European history- ?

I'd suggest a textbook for the sciences.

AP comparative- PR

Ethel Woods study guide is the way to go. I studied it for 2 weeks and got a 5 (self studied).

I hope that you realize the negligible effects of doing this.

Pragmatism, man.

how many ap's do you already have?
you do know that taking lots of ap's does not REALLY secure getting into a college??
are you taking an ap's at school already??

i understand what you are trying to do..and i do think that it is possible, i am just thinking that you might want to put some of your time into other things..like extracurricular/community service..etc..

i'll name some books but you have to tell me if this is a joke thread or is it for real...

Get Ethel Woods for World if you're planning on supplementing it w/ a textbook. If not, Princeton kinda sucks...use Barrons. And practice writing LOTS of essays.

Thank you if you helped me in any way and suggested new textbooks (especially jamesford)!!!
i really am serious about this and would like to accomplish this goal...i know its tough but i hope to be able to do it...i dont really plan on getting textbooks, but plz suggest them as well if u know that it is not possible with prep books only
i actually am done with studying precalculus, but my dumb counselor doesnt let me advance...so i want to "diss" her and show my capabilites by getting a 5 on the calc bc (the ap exam i am most excited about!!!!)

@stueydue
this is for real...no joke

@aigiqinf
I wish you the best of luck with your goals!!! Maybe we can share some book suggestions if you catch any... ;)

I am serious guys...I know it sounds like i have no life, but i am going to try it while doing extracurriculars...maybe i will fail, maybe i will succeed, maybe i will do less aps...i dont know yet but i am going to try hard...really hard

I will call you crazy, and I will not proceed to take time that I could have been doing something useful to try to straighten out your perception of reality.

AP exams represent achievement in college level classes. There's a reason why for these classes, you go to class for 90 minutes a day, every day, for an entire year. To understand a subject such as Calculus or Physics, you need to have constant practice each day. You need to be exposed to problems, discuss them with others, and gain insight into the field. There's a reason why there's homework, lecture, tests, etc. Learning anything is a gradual process that should be savored and not done in an overly rapid manner.

Prove your math capabilities on SAT II Math 2 if you're so confident in you precalc skills. Hell, get 3 800's on SAT IIs in different subjects, THEN go and try to study 13 APs. If you can't do that, you know where you need to focus your efforts.

You CAN self study, but not 13 and not just by reading a text book cover to cover. You need to do problems, you need to stumble and have someone help you up, especially at this age (after college, you're on your own, but you'll be much more intellectually advanced). Pick maybe one or two that you REALLY are interested in and do well. If you try 13, you will probably pass about 5 or 6 of them and get 5's on maybe one or two.

Take my advice how you will.

Oh, yeah, and you should probably get a girlfriend, too. It'll make you realize that life's more than just tests/academics.

wow i so think this is a troll. 13 is way too much. not saying impossible but cmon u must be clearly the dumbest person with absolutely no life whatsoever to take 13 APs just to impress Harvard, Princeton, and MIT. let me ruin ur parade, but neither of those schools would hardly care and NO ONE has a 100 let alone a quarter percent of a chance of getting into those schools. ur just throwing away ur high school life into the bin just to attempt at those schools were ur not guaranteed a chance in. wat will u do to urself when u get a straight reject from them?

trust me dont do it. if u do, good luck ruining ur life ull never get back.

Why aren't you taking Macro/Micro???

in all seriousness though, i second the idea of taking sat2s first. they are considered more than APs for admissions anyway. take one humanities, language, science, and math and score an 800 on all of these. then self study for maybe 3 APs per year. take the AP exams with the goal of getting college credit, not for admissions.

I know people like you... You guys often get jealous because of the goals or accomplishments of others and try to make them feel like losers by saying things you shouldn't... you guys fear that these kids will take ur space at ivy league colleges... GROW UP!!
i still plan to have a life and do my extracurriculars! i know people who ended up taking 10+ ap tests...they didnt have as much time as before, but they were still able to continue their hobbies!!!
by the way...i dont want a f****** american girlfriend...americans are ugly as hell!!!...open ur eyes or explore some continents!!! not everybody tries to get uglier through plastic surgeries and tons of make up (I hate make up and fake blond hair!!!!)
i dont know whether u guys realize it or not, but i have the feeling that u dont have a life!!! i mean, i have no friend who has the time to go online
and tell others that they are trolls...GET A LIFE!!!!
i dont need u to tell me how i should live to not be a troll... i know what i am doing...

tiger, you gotta calm down. These posters are just trying to help; SOme of us just think you might burn yourself out and not do as well as you hoped. I dont even think working that much is healthy! There are limits in life. Plus, with 13 APs, i guarantee you will not have a life. There is a chance you will suceed, but there is also the chance that you will not pass as many APs as you thought. No Ivy will guarantee you a seat. You only get one life, dont ruin it. I agree with ashraf; pick something you have a genuine interest in.
