I'm currently studying at the University of Southern California (USC), and I'm currently staying at my friend's place who studies at Columbia. I've really wanted to attend Columbia before, and with a strong GPA at USC, I plan to try applying here as a transfer applicant! While I'm here at Columbia, do you guys have any suggestions to what I can strengthen my chances for getting in? Some of my friends told me to go meet the admissions officers and try to show my interest for the school but how do I approach them? And besides these stuff, do you guys have any tips on what kind of aspects of myself I should show on my transfer app?

If possible, it probably would be good if you could sit in on some classes or talk with professors in areas of study that you’re planning to pursue a major in. I’m not sure if you can meet with admissions reps, but you can probably visit the office of undergraduate admissions to get material about columbia, and maybe even take a campus tour.

hey discussion,
I read about transfers before (and im assuming your a current freshmen), and if im not mistaken, the majority of the transfer decision still rests on your high school record

And yeah, the things you have listed will faciliate the process; also make sure to do alottt of research on columbia and get ready to write a compelling “why columbia” essay. Also, (this might be common sense) but stand out in your college classes so you can get a good rec (do extra research, bring up insightful questions/points in classroom discussions, impress your professors, etc.)

Show that you’re gung-ho for Columbia, and reference specifics regarding your visit: experience, teachers, etc.

Also, get all A’s at USC and take at least 5-6 classes each semester (6 is much better). I would suggest interning while taking classes as well, because many Columbia kids intern during the semester. If this sounds like you’ll have no life, then you’re ready. Welcome to Columbia, our lives are school and work (and then short and explosive fun on the weekend).
