I want to volunteer in a lab. What should I do?

I'm a senior in high school in NYC. I've always wanted to work in a lab but just have not gotten around to getting a position. What exactly do I have to do? Do I just contact scientists who's work interests me and hope they respond?

I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Is this such a dumb question?

Ummm...contact a professor, say or write that you want to work for them, explain what you know and want to do, and hopefully you'll get some kind of position. It's best to do research on the research of various nearby professors and contact those doing work you're interested in.

find a bunch and email / call them up

thats all i did lol

i found a whole bunch, one i really liked and it just so happened that the one i like contacted me back.

it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. DO IT lol :D

Or if you are bold, just hop into the university and ask to speak to the department chair of whichever department you are interested in.
