I was dismissed...

Yes I was just dismissed from ACT a few minutes ago for having protractor out for math test, one guy at the testing center explained that the protractor was a "aid" and nothing is allowed other than a calculator, I looked at ACT website and it did not specify that protractor was one of the aid that's prohibited: ACT Test Prep : Prohibited Behavior at the Test Center
I'm just furkin ****ed off because I practiced over 100 practice questions and I'm confident I that I'll get a 30. now my college applying process is delayed for 3 month.

Ouch 10char

I don’t think they’re required to specify which aids are prohibited (notice that the link you posted lists using “other aids” as grounds for dismissal). Nonetheless, I’m sorry that you had to learn such a painful lesson.

LOL

Why would you need a protractor?

To make sure the triangles aren’t lying about their angle measurements.

Figures are not drawn to scale. There is no use for a protractor on the exam.

Sorry Ana
10 chara

Wow. Sorry for that. Must be a hard a-- proctor.

wow that sucks.

awww…im sorry
but u really shoudnt have brought the protractor, which wouldnt help u on the test at all

They can definitely throw you out for bringing a protractor…

Lol that’s HORRIBLE. I’d protest.

I don’t understand how protractor is an “aid”, according to ACT figures are not drawn to scale, so it can’t possibly help you right?

btw I practiced over 1000 not 100

Maybe i’m confusing the ACT with the SAT, but don’t they have a statement on their website saying that you can’t bring rulers/protractors? It might even be on the admission ticket.

Whoever said that the ACT isn’t to scale, they are wrong. Unless it says not drawn to scale, it usually is.

Why the hell did you bring it then? It’s your own fault for getting dismissed.

Because even though ACT said they are not scaled, they ARE. I used protractor to measure angles for problems in the Red Book and it worked everytime.

Well then you were breaking the rules. You’re supposed to figure it out analytically, not by measuring.

“Maybe i’m confusing the ACT with the SAT, but don’t they have a statement on their website saying that you can’t bring rulers/protractors? It might even be on the admission ticket.”

There’s not a single statement that states : NO Protractor are allowed at the Testing Center.
On ACT website it states no notes or special aid are allowed.
Who knows what constitutes what an “aid” is, ACT could be just making up their on rule on this one

Exactly! It’s their test, they decide.

There is no reason for you to bring anything other than a pencil and a calculator.
