We saw several younger kids when we were there a couple of weeks ago…they looked very bored…I would bring something for them to do or as the above poster said, let them bowl in the union downstairs.

We did family orientation yesterday. I’d definately wear comfortable shoes to walk in, and dress for the heat. If the academic college meeting for the college in which your student is enrolled is either in the Union or close to it, you might not be walking quite as much. We had to walk to the ECJ for the engineering session and it was halfway across campus. You do have to walk across campus to get to the barbeque, as it’s next to Memorial Stadium.
Long, hot walk.

We took our 14 year old and he was bored stiff. He brought his ipod touch and was able to keep himself entertained for a while, but when we had the break-out sessions in the Union ballroom in the afternoon, we left him down in the Underground to bowl. Between each session we would go down and check on him.

All in all, I’m glad we went. (but we only live about an hour and a half away from Austin)
The morning welcome sessions weren’t that great, but the engineering meeting and the sessions on housing and financial stuff were very informative.

utlonghornmom, I was also at the family orientation, and went to the engineering session in ECJ. I had several classes there when I was at UT, so it was a funny feeling! I enjoyed the day, but was totally exhausted by the end of the health professions session at 7 pm.

What does one do if the day after fall orientation is the student’s 18th birthday, and she does not have a driver’s license?
