I let my dad's recommendation ("Wharton is only good for the MBA, so wait util then") get to me, and I applied to Princeton instead. Now the "what ifs" are taking over, and I'm regretting not giving myself a chance.

So Class of 2016, congratulations and I wish you the best. And to Prospective Class of 2017, just apply, whether it's Penn or another university. Getting rejected is a lot more relieving that wondering what could have been.

Thank you, but I didn’t get into Princeton lol. Maybe I should expand more:

Columbia and Penn were tied at #1 in my mind and heart. My dad didn’t respect Wharton at the undergrad level and asked me to replace it with Princeton, a school I had no interest in ( I’m sure it showed at my interview). I figured I had no chance at the Ivy League anyway, so it didn’t bother me.

Fast forward to today. I was miraculously accepted to Columbia, but rejected from all the other elites. I feel confident that if I had applied to Wharton, my chances would have been good (10% acceptance, compared to Columbia’s 7.4%). But I don’t have that choice, because I took some bad advice from my father.

I’m sure I’ll have fun and do well at Columbia, but for now the “what ifs” are taking over, and it kinda sucks.

Exact same problem with me. Except I didn’t think I could get into Wharton and instead applied to CAS. I got into CAS for a major I liked but I still wonder if I would’ve gotten in if I applied to Wharton. I’m definitely going to go for the dual degree option after freshman year.

And I’m similar to you in that I was debating between Columbia ED or Penn ED. I chose Columbia and was rejected.

@nebbalish: Just remember that you can transfer from CAS to Wharton or pursue a dual-degree if you are interested. And unless you really really want the Wharton name on your diploma, you can always take Wharton classes (one-university policy).

^ Sorry, no Wharton name on your diploma, even if you were in Wharton–just good 'ol “Universitas Pennsylvaniensis” (Penn diplomas are in Latin–how cool is that? :)).

But you WILL be able to put “B.S. in Econ., The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania” on your resume! Which means that CAS kids can put “took XYZ classes at the Wharton School” on their resumes, so it’s all good. ;)

@45 Percenter I’m definitely going to work my butt off for a 3.7+ GPA next year so I can get a shot at that double degree. I’ve heard it’s really competitive though.

Either way, I’m going to be taking Wharton classes in my 4 years at Penn. It’d just be awesome if I can say I went to the Wharton School of Business.

In your case, 2 diplomas in Latin, and nary a “Wharton” on either of them (well, obviously not on the B.A., but also not on the B.S. in Econ.). :)

I went to a shoe shop once and on the wall was the owner’s college degree, which said Wharton it. It was a BS too. Unless they changed it recently. His degree was from like, 20 years ago.

^ All in Latin, and all identical in appearance except for the type off degree (which is in Latin for the B.A., and in English for the B.S. in Econ.).

They all look like this (without the frame and mat, of course, and with the recipient’s name and degree filled in, along with the relevant Dean’s/President’s signatures, etc.):

None of them have the name of the individual school within the University (Wharton, College, Annenberg, etc.).

A translation of the diploma is also available, but it’s not the official diploma and, to my knowledge, still doesn’t contain the name of the individual school:

Thats really strange lol. The guys diploma on the wall definitely said Wharton on it. I know because I told him I went to Wharton after seeing it. Hmm. That’s weird.

If you already have regrets for not applying to Wharton, I would very strongly recommend against coming to Penn. See the comments in the following article to understand why I’m saying so:

^ Hey. When I decided against going to Columbia, Stanford refused to extend its response deadline, but Penn graciously allowed me to do so. So, here I am. :)

Just because my entire life isn’t on CC doesn’t mean I’m a ■■■■■.
