IB Diploma or AP?

I am a sophomore and my high school offers IB and AP classes. They offer the IB Diploma Program as a whole, too. I'm deciding whether or not to choose between the two.

IB, as it turns out, is actually less rigorous at my school than APs. However, I don't think colleges are going to be able to discern whether or not an A in IB HOA will be less hard to earn than an A in AP US at my school. So, my question is this: From everyone's experience with admissions, is IB viewed by Universities and Colleges as equally difficult as AP? If so, do you feel it is right of me to do the Diploma program and get better grades than AP, though it won't be as rigorous nor as preparatory for College?

Look at it this way before answering: If I don't do as well in APs (though I am more well prepared for college) than I would in IB, then I may have done better, but I probably wouldn't stand as much of a chance at my dream school. Is it worth it?
