Ice Hockey

We have all been so consumed with the coach change and the football recruiting season that we have lost sight of our Icers.

They went into this weekend with a #2 ranking and a 22-3-4 record and had two road games at #1 Miami of Ohio. They came out of of that two game series 1-0-1. I think this should propel the Icers back to #1 with a 23-3-5 record. Michigan has made it to 6 Frozen Fours (1996, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003 ) and won 2 NCAA National Championships (1996 and 1998) this past decade alone. Overall, Michigan has won 9 NCAA Hockey National Championships (more than any other program in the nation) and made it to a whopping 24 NCAA Hockey Frozen Fours (again, more than any other program in the sport).

Because of our hugely successful and popular football program, I think we sometimes lose sight of the tradition we have in Hockey. Not only is our program one of the most successful, but Yost is one crazy venue. The electricity and energy at Yost is hard to duplicate.

I have shared seasons tickets with 2 friends for the last 3 years. I love the experience of being at Yost. It is intimate, electric, and intense. I also love the cheers and would not repeat some of them in a public forum. It is quite the opposite experience of Michigan Stadium when I find people often sit on their hands and are not involved.
My youngest will be at UofM in the fall for engineering. He will be in for quite a variety of experiences the next 4 years.

I've just started to follow UM hockey this year! Looks like I will have to try and get me some season tickets this fall. I personally think that hockey is more fun to watch than football. Now the basketball team has to make their turnaround. The last couple games looked kind of promising.

I grew up watching a top hockey team out east. I loved watching the games and it definitely had a lot to do with my passion for college sports. I love college football. I hope I can be in the Big House next year to root for the Football team, but I definitely look forward to watching the hockey team as well. I need to get back into College Hockey. I remember going to a few Beanpots back in the day. Those were a lot of fun.

I have always maintained that hockey was the #2 sport on campus, behind only football and way in front of basketball.
