Ideas for Economics Club?

I'm president this year and I want to make it fun and interesting so members will return. Any ideas, please? I don't want to just do current economic issues discussion like we did the years before because it's kind of boring.

Keynesian v. Socialism v. Chicago v. Classical is always fun.

why not actually do some business models? start a school store or somthing and track the income, expense, and net profit. then try to make it better? that’s just my idea for a economics club. sorry if it doesn’t help.

Try an economic experiment or something (like Derrick’s suggestion), or read some economics books and talk about them (In Fed We Trust is sooo good), or have a mock Secy of Treasury election (I know he’s not elected, but just for fun) and have people argue their cases for what should be done, and vote based on their arguments. Economics is totally awesome, have fun with the club. <3

For at least some of your meetings, you could try to get outside speakers. There are any number of topics/speakers you might draw upon:
Chamber of Commerce members taling about “Free Enterprise” system or how the current economic problems affect Main Street
Speakers from various political/economic persuasians: Socialist, Republican, Libertarian, etc.
If you’re near a local college, a prof (economics or business) speaking about any number of topics
Clergy speaking about the ethical dimension of economic life
A banker speaking about the bailouts, etc.
A speaker on credit cards/debt
A rep from a manufacturers association or a trade group
A city official speaking about the impact of the economic situation on your city
A labor rep speaking about the jobs situation
A real estate rep to talk about the current housing market
Someone to talk about energy economics
A speaker on homelessness/poverty
A speaker on globalization, "fair trade, microfinance, etc.

Check what colleges, associations, businesses, etc are in your locality.

At my old school there was a club called the Young Investors Club. One year the leadership decided to hold a stock market contest - I forget the name of the website that hosted that - but it is actually possible to engage in buying/selling exactly as you would in the real market yet not with real money. It was quite fun. I highly suggest you give that a try.
