When submitting the documents to IDOC, do we need to include the 1040 ? The college sent us email asking for tax transcript and verification letter, however, when I submitted the verification letter, I think IDOC also asked for the tax form and schedules (and I don’t think it came from the college), I like to avoid sending anything more than necessary.
We submitted our IDOC documents for D’s senior year of college last month and this is the fourth year we’ve used IDOC. Each college is different, but from our experience, IDOC is very specific on their requests for what they want, such as 1040 form, W-2s, etc. If in doubt, contact the college’s financial aid office for clarification on exactly what they want.
For example, our D’s college only wanted the basic 2-page 1040 form for our family; our D’s 1040EZ for her part-time job; and W-2s for each of us submitted through IDOC, not the additional schedules that are part of the complete tax return. Because we file our tax returns electronically, we also included the filing and transmittal receipt from our tax software for each return, since the PDF or printed copy of the basic 1040 form is not signed or dated in an electronically filed tax return.
