See my Post #2: you are required to file Form 1040 and Schedule C, along with Schedule SE because you had self employment income exceeding the threshold. You owe the 15.3% employment tax x $800 =$122.
We have a similar situation, but less summer income ($300), so no return to be filed. There is no W-2 or 1099. What do we provide as proof of income? We already reported the income on the FAFSA and CSS profile.
@annoyingdad , so untaxed income is not what we’re talking about-money for cello gigs, babysitting, etc?
Then where does it go on the IDOC if one isn’t filing taxes?
Never mind. I figured it out. I’ll put it in the non-tax filers statement.
@Max2019 , you’d probably be best off starting your own thread. People tend to answer the original poster.
I have a question!
IDOC says (for Form 1099—Student) to “view the additional information” if you are not a tax filer. What do they mean by/where can I find the “additional information?” And if I do not have a 1099 Form, what must I upload in its stead?
Thanks to anyone who can answer this for me!!
All of my documents were finally processed yesterday, which was about 10 days after upload; however, the student 1099 was still listed under the required documents with a red “document has not been received” symbol beside it. There’s no way to indicate that the document is not applicable, so I called the CollegeBoard to let them know that there are no student 1099 forms. I was told that the CollegeBoard takes a second pass through the documents, at which point they would remove the student 1099 entry (based on info from the other documents), and this would happen in a few days. The whole process seems overly complicated.
Thank you!
I was justing going to ask the question about the 1099 forms. Thanks for the answer. Our IDOC stuff is finally processed, but it still shows 1099s for both student and parents, neither of which has a 1099, so hopefully College Board will delete that.
The other thing that still shows not processed is taxes and W2s for one particular school. The other schools seem to have gotten that info. I think I’ll email the school and ask about this.
I called again today (as the student 1099 is still showing up as required despite it being not applicable) and was told that the previous CollegeBoard representative gave me incorrect information. The student 1099 document will remain as “not received” in IDOC and the individual colleges will contact you directly if they determine that the document is applicable based on the other documents provided.
