My parents tried to get the PDFs earlier but didn’t manage to till now, they’re due Jan 1st and of course we’re away now and they want the files mailed… my parents keep insisting we can just mail them after the deadline and e-mail them for now and it’ll be fine but I’m really worried about this… Will I not be able to get any aid if it’s a bit late?
I don’t think so. But call the school to be sure.
Sounds like you have no choice but to submit them when you return. Choose to believe everything will be okay!
What tax returns are you submitting by January 1? Is this for an early action acceptance?
Your 2016-2017 FAFSA can’t be filed until January 1 at the earliest,
No one has 2015 completed tax returns now.
Yeah it’s EA and they want 2014 ones if 2015 ones aren’t available the office isn’t even open till Jan 3rd, don’t know why they want them by the 1st but it says that’s the deadline on their wesbite
A few years ago, my kids’ schools’ financial aid office only wanted first two pages of Form 1040
If you are emailing them, make sure you black out most of the social security numbers.
Your parents need to keep copies of their past tax returns on file for 7 years. Where were they getting the pdf files from, the accountant?
And you should also black out the bank routing # / account #.
Yes, from the accountant
Well they should keep a copy of the tax return for their own records.
If the school requires the FAFSA next year as well, make sure your parents have their taxes done asap.
@mommdc well…the FAFSA for 2017-2018 will be using the 2015 taxes! So the next year should be a breeze!
@yes, sorry, with next year I meant January 2016. It is still technically “next year” even though it will be here in two days, lol.
@mommdc the OP is talking about financial aid for an early acceptance for,the 2016-2017 school year.
But yes…to the OP…get those 2015 taxes done ASAP!
Honest question: why is this an issue? The routing number and account number are on every check that anyone writes. If I pay Guido the pool guy with a personal check, he has this information. What kind of nefarious stuff can he do with it?
Yes, I assumed the 2014 tax return was required for school specific FA form or CSS profile because of EA acceptance. I just meant if they are also requiring FAFSA once it becomes available in January 2016 they should do their taxes as soon as possible. With them using an accountant they might be used to getting taxes done later.
Sorry for the confusion.
