If anyone could please give any input on my chances... :)

Rising senior here. Female from a small but top ranked public school in PA. I'm definitely starting to really freak out about college, so any advice or thoughts or anything about how you think I'd fair with Williams would be much appreciated. :) Hopefully I have at least a somewhat decent shot....

GPA: 4.26 (weighted) (unweighted=?)
Class rank: school doesn't do it
ACT: 31
SATs: 2120 (740 W 700 CR 680 M)
SAT subjects: haven't taken yet, but planning on U.S. History and Literature.

Main classes... (not counting electives etc.)
Freshman: H English 9, H Algebra 2, Chemistry, Spanish 3, American Civics
Sophomore: H English 10, H FST, H Bio, Spanish 4, H World History
Junior: H English 11, H PreCalc, Physics, APUSH (5 on exam)
Senior: AP Lit, AP Cakc AB, AP Bio, Politics/Econ

Other: Distinguished GPA, Rotary Club Award, Top 3 Poetry Award, published in Green Lantern Press...

You can probably guess that I have an interest in English. I'm thinking I might major in English while on the pre-med track.

Other schools I'm considering: Kenyon, Davidson, Middlebury, Vassar, Colgate, Hamilton, and (super duper reach) Dartmouth.

Thanks for any help! Hopefully I'm not utterly doomed.

Hi! I think you are on the right track, although ideally you’d have SATs above 2250 or even 2300. Do you plan on running in college? If so you should talk to the coach at Williams. I don’t know much about Williams’ running teams, but you should definitely show your results to a coach. That possibly could help a lot.

Thank you for responding!

I took the SAT three times and that was the highest, so I’m not sure if taking it another time would just be overkill… But yeah, I wish I could have gotten higher. I don’t know how I could be so bad at SAT math when I’m taking AP Calc… Sigh. It always seems easy until I get the results back. :P

I’m not sure if I’m going to run competitively in college or just for fun, but if it would help my chances I’d definitely consider it.

well honestly you have really good scores already. But I would POUND the math study test and take the SAT again. Have you thought about Bates or Colby? They are both really great NESCACs that you might have a little better chance at.
I would only try to get help from a coach if you know you want to run in college. Getting athletic “pull” commits you to the team.

Hmmm. Well, I guess since I’m not sure about running then I shouldn’t commit to anything in case I change my mind.

I have looked at Colby and Bates, but unfortunately I think Maine is just too far away. My parents were already slightly concerned with the distance of other closer places before, cause they’re just overprotective like that, haha. I’m the only child…

I’m definitely taking the SAT subject tests on the earliest possible date, October 1st. Then I guess I’ll see how I do on those and figure out if I’m going to try to tackle the entire SAT one last time. But if my score stays the same, do you think that will that be a huge factor against me? I’m not sure how my ACT score will come into play either… I know there are all those geniuses with perfect standardized tests I have to compete against but I’m hoping my personality will come through with my whole application. I just really love Williams. :)

Thanks again for your help!

I think that you’ve got a shot if you do ED. Williams is verrrry selective but it’s one school where ED will really help your chances. Admission rates drop from around 40% ED to like 12 % regular. It’s nuts…
If you write some great essays, get good recs, and have a killer app overall then you’ll probably be OK! Good luck, and I hope you do apply ED! (I am, and I could use someone to freak out about the process with ahaah!)

We’re going to drive up to Williams to visit sometime in the coming weeks, so if I’m as in love with the school in person as I think I will be, I will probably be applying ED as well. Thinking about how insanely competitive admissions are is terrifying, so of course I’ll take any extra boost with chances I can get, haha!

If everything goes according to plan I just might be there freaking out along with you, and hopefully, with a bit of luck, celebrating along with you at the end of all this, too. :)
