If applying for fin aid at one kid's school...

...do you have to apply at both kid's schools?

We have 2 daughters. My older one has a 1/2 tuition merit scholarship so we never applied for financial aid (wouldn't have qualified anyway) beyond what was necessary for her to qualify for the unsubsidized student gov't loan (which she didn't take). Finances have changed somewhat and with my younger daughter applying and getting accepted to some schools that don't give any merit we're now applying for fin aid. (still don't think we'll qualify for much, if any). My question is do we now have to apply for financial aid from both kid's schools? I'm not sure how it all works.

Thanks for the help. :)

You do not have to apply for FA at both schools. You can apply for FA at only one school if you like. There’s no obligation to apply for FA at both schools.

Since you say your finances have changed AND you will now have two kiddos in college, I would suggest you apply for aid for both kiddos. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Thanks, Thumper. You’re right. I guess there’s no reason not to apply.
