If daughter doesn't get into Davis, SLO or UDUB?

So my daughter (like everyone else here) is still waiting on Davis and from the looks of it will have to wait another week. She has already been accepted to Cal Poly SLO, University of Washington, UCSC and San Diego State. If she doesn’t get into Davis, which school would be most advisable. Aside from financial reasons, (we are in CA so UDub would cost lots of $ and we don’t qualify for any financial aide). She is an english major so this is one of the reasons why she is reluctant on Cal Poly because it seems to be more of a technical school. Would the money for Washington be worth it?? Thanks for any thoughts or input.

I believe UW would be the better choice. But honestly, if she got in to UW as an out of state candidate, I dont think she should have a problem getting into Davis.
UW is ranked the same as Davis, so I believe it should have a very decent English program

I have a daughter who is a sophomore at UCSC. She is a psych major, but loves to write, and she’s really happy there. The campus is beautiful and getting around Santa Cruz is really easy. She has enjoyed most of her classes, and her profs have been pretty decent.

I have a son who is waiting to see about Davis, which is why I’m on this thread.

Just thought you’d like some UCSC insight.

Good luck.

I would say University of Washington. :)

I would say UCSC. Its a nice environment unless she hates being in the middle of trees all the time. San Diego state is a party school.

she is definitely will not go to san diego state!!! She applied as a safety but would choose SLO over that. Our son is a second year at ucsd so the closeness would have been convenient and she did get denied from ucsd. I guess we’ll have to wait and see next week when the rest of the UC’s come out. She doesn’t quite like the environment of UC Santa Cruz. Too many trees and feels like a summer camp to her!! To each their own! Wish us luck on Davis or we’ll be having some major decisions to make!!

You didn’t mention her major, but that may be a factor in her decision. Each school is very good, but one may be better for her particular major. For example, my son is going into engineering, so SLO is a better choice than some of the UCs. We also like the atmosphere and the cost! He is waiting to hear from Davis and Cal and then he can make a choice. So far he is accpeted to 5/7 campuses. 2 more to go! He is accepted to UCSC and CPSLO too!

She is an english major! Total opposite of my son (human bioloby @ ucsd) so that is another reason why she’s not too sure on CPSLO. They do have an english department but she feels they focus mainly on the technical majors. Actually all the UC’s are more science, engineering as well but we hear that Davis has a good department and competes in writing competitions etc… Hopefully we’ll know in a few more days!!!

Hi! yes, I could see why you might worry about CPSLO having a good english department. It does seem like a more math/science school. I am sure it is a good department, but one of her other choices might be much better. Davis is a beautiful campus and a great town. She couldn’t go wrong going there. We will find out soon!

OP, I would like to point out, if your daughter does get into Davis, the English department is spectacular. One of my English teachers got her doctorate at Davis and before that she went to Yale for her undergrad. She said Davis has a great English grad program. Regardless, I hope your daughter will choose the school she likes best! :)
