My friend’s D applied to a school ED and did not make it in the ED round. In the meantime, she has received a few awards which I felt were worth adding to her file. Her mother does not think she is in the pool any more - that she did not make it ED and is no longer being considered. Do people receive rejection letters if not admitted ED or does everyone automatically move to the ED pool. The school in question is Northwestern.
Aren’t the colleges very specific about where you are when they notify you of your application results?
DENIED/REJECTED, DEFERRED (to RD) or ACCEPTED?
Perhaps - my S didn’t apply anywhere ED so I don’t know. I just assumed that unless the applicant was unequivocally unqualifed, they moved to RD. I don’t my friends’ D’s stats - better than average but not stellar.
If she was rejected in the ED round, she will no longer be considered. If she was deferred, then she moves to the RD round. I think the fact the mother and daughter are contemplating this points to a likely rejection, as I think if one were to receive a “defferred” notice, there wouldn’t be much room for interpretation.
Northwestern has a very low deferral rate for ED; for the most part, one is either accepted or rejected. Your friend’s daughter will certainly know if she was rejected or deferred.
The mother felt fairly certain about the rejection. It was my unfamiliarity with the ED process and not wanting her to have a missed opportunity which caused me to enquire further of the CC community. Thanks for the responses.
Depends upon the school. Some will automatically roll you over to RD and some will deny you for ED and you are done.
The word matters a lot. I know people flat out rejected EA. Many people deferred EA and ED.
The EA school that deferred my son said “we would welcome you to stay in our RD pool” and that he didn’t have to do anything to remain in their RD pool.
I would think that the chance of getting decent FA decreases tremendously if the school already has indicated a student is borderline at best.
