I don't have a school I love so much that I would apply early decision to because I don't want it to be binding. Of all the schools I'm thinking about applying only Stanford and Georgetown have EA. I was thinking of doing Georgetown because I think I have a higher chance of getting in here than Stanford. The benefit of that is that when December rolls around, if I find out I got in, I can feel some sense of relief that if I got rejected from all my other schools, I have this awesome school I can still go to. But if I get rejected it'd let me know I need to improve on my essays or maybe ask for different letters of rec.

Either way my friend thought I was stupid for applying EA if Georgetown isnt my 1st choice. What do you guys think?

if georgetown isn’t your first choice, but you would still be thrilled to go there if you got in, i think it makes sense to apply EA. if you’re only applying because it has EA and not ED, then that’s stupid

Why would you want to limit yourself by not applying to Georgetown EA? I totally agree with bpd123. If Georgetown is a place you’d attend, if accepted (should your #1 not come through) then go for it. I guess this is a little unclear…Is your #1 Stanford or is it a different school which has a higher admit rate (easier to get into) than Georgetown?

To which school (SFS, MSB, the College, NHS) are you thinking of applying? This could be a major factor on whether or not you are admitted EA.

I don’t really have a number 1 school at this point. Georgetown is in my top ten and I definitely would go if I did not get into either Duke or Brown. (At this point my top 3 are Stanford, Duke and Brown in no particular order) It’s just, I know 8 people at my school applying early to Stanford, and nearly 20 at a near by school applying early to Stanford. I just felt that I’d have a higher chance getting into Georgetown than Stanford.

Also I actually just emailed the admissions office of Georgetown but I was thinking either a science major (biological sciences) and if not then IR. I was a little unclear on which college I should apply to…

you can switch colleges once you get in if you change your mind about your major. just apply to the school with the major that you think you want to do at this point, and then you can change if you dont like it.

Gov and sciences are both in the College, so you’re fine.

False, sort of. Government and Science are both in the college, but they want International Relations, which is in the SFS. But bpd123 is right too - you can switch schools if you so choose once you are in. I’d do what I did and pick the essay you can do best.
