*Also apply to the University of Alabama, though I don’t know how gay-friendly you’ll find the deep south. *

While Bama’s maybe not like a West Coast or NE school, there are gay students and there is a very active club: Spectrum.

If become a ward of the state or homeless before you 18th birthday, I think you would be considered 100 percent pell eligible and parents income is not considered. you would be living in what is considered a homeless shelter or group home. Talk to social services about your scenario.

OP is not going to be kicked out until she turns 18.
While I don’t think that 18yr olds do that great living on their own necessarily- there isnt anything illegal about expecting an adult to support themselves.

Im also curious as to why you decided to come out to your parents when they would see that action as hostile?
My daughter came out to me as a junior, but I had to ask her about it, it wasn’t that obvious, and I was not uncomfortable with it in any way, I was just surprised.
( she had a stack of books about homosexuals in history that was as tall as she was. So I had to ask about it)

Im curious, if you will be paying for college on your own, why are you focusing on the very tip top of private schools?

I don’t think you will be able to be classified as an emancipated minor as your parents obviously care enough about you to pay for private school & they did not kick you out despite their current horror at your sexual orientation.

I know that private schools in Seattle, including Catholic schools are quite pricey and your parents income isn’t really that high for this expensive area.
I would consider proposing to them, that you transfer to a public school, and perhaps they would allow you the amount they would otherwise be spending, for college.

It wont be enough to cover your EFC for Uchicago or one of your other current choices, but it would pay for several years at a community college with money left over to find a cheap apt to share.

OP noted in her original post that that is the caliber of school she would have applied too if the hole LGBT issue had not blown up in her face. "Under normal circumstances, I could have gone to some of my top choice schools with little to no merit aid. " Not that those are the schools she will be appling to now…

OP, I’m so sorry you’re in this situation. My support is with you.

I encourage you to contact the Point Foundation ([The National LGBTQ Scholarship Fund - LGBTQ College Scholarships - Point Foundation](http://www.pointfoundation.org/)) They work with LGBT youth in your situation. They’ll probably have advice and be able to help you.

I see-
Well, since it appears that it blew up less than two weeks ago, I wonder if her parents are still in shock and will calm down eventually.
