i’m hoping to get an a this semester but last semester i got an a-. my overall gpa is a 4.1 and i’m a sophomore
Most likely a 4.1 would be a weighted GPA. What is your “unweighted” GPA. Most university Common Data Set (CDS) profile information is based on the unweighted number.
What do you want to do with CS? There are so many ways to apply it.
Why would you think that one A- in one course would be a problem?
Why wouldn’t it be? Assuming you understand the material, you’ll be fine. You might not get into MIT, but then neither did my kid who got A+'s in math. There are tons of places that offer CS that will be glad to have you, assuming the rest of your package is fine. (And by fine, I don’t mean perfect grades and scores.)
it’s a 4.0
i’m not exactly sure but i’m really enjoying my computer science class so I think I’d like to carry on doing it in college
im not sure, i’m just worried that the top colleges will see an a- in a math class as a negative, especially if i’m going to major in computer science. would it make that big of a difference?
An A- is fine. What you get on the SAT and/or AP calculus test and/or SAT subject tests will be more important.
“im not sure, i’m just worried that the top colleges will see an a- in a math class as a negative, especially if i’m going to major in computer science. would it make that big of a difference?”
Likely not. In an 8 minute perusal of your application, it’s going to count as an A in an honors class. The end.
