I was talking to a guy who transferred to a UC and he says public schools don’t require engineering students to take the igetc, I don’t know if he’s right. I’ve made an appointment with my college counselor to ask but just in case if any has information please tell me
@it23478 - yes, you need to take IGETC classes (and engineering classes). Best to talk to your college counselor and get a student education plan of classes you will need to take.
@MLM Uhm, engineering majors should focus on getting their pre req classes done. It says here that neither GE or IGETC is a requirement for admission http://web2.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=1&sia=SBCC&ria=UCLA&ia=SBCC&oia=UCLA&aay=15-16&ay=15-16&dora=COMP+SCI
From the official UC website http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/transfer/advising/igetc/
I quote "Which type of student should follow IGETC
IGETC is most helpful to students who want to keep their options open — specifically, those who know they want to transfer but haven’t yet decided upon a particular institution, campus or major.
Which type of student should not
Certain students, however, will not be well served by following IGETC. Students who intend to transfer into majors that require extensive lower-division preparation, such as engineering or the physical and natural sciences, should concentrate on completing the many prerequisites for the major that the college screens for to determine eligibility for admission
Not a requirement, but a consideration
IGETC is not an admission requirement. Completing it does not guarantee admission to the campus or program of choice. However, completing the lower-division breadth/general education requirements — whether through IGETC or the campus-specific requirements — may be considered by the campus in selecting among qualified applicants."
thank you
